Getting a lodger in, things to consider?

Dont think its weird myself regarding kitchen use as what they pay in rent could be used to pay the increased utility bill and if they are constantly using the kitchen there would be no profit therefore no point.

yeah.. if

like I said your case is an outlier

having a rule on kitchen usage in a flat sharing scenario is weird and unnecessary in the vast majority of cases

Thought this thread was about having a Lodger not a Flat Share which are two different things as far as I know.

Internet usage would be another consideration. Set up a guest account on the router with QoS. Not sure what can be done about pirate sites, as the ISP account holder would be liable if a lodger was going on dodgy sites?

I lodged for a year back in 2000-1. Me and landlady were both full time workers, so it worked well for both of us. We figured out what times we each used the kitchen and stuck to those times. I went clubbing a lot (Bristol ftw!), and she was fine about that as I always came back in the house quietly. If I wasn't clubbing, I was normally up equally as late playing Final Fantasy 7/8 hehe. This won't apply to the OP, but it was dial-up internet back in 2000-1 and the landlady just itemised the telephone bill, then I paid whatever the dial-up costs came to at the end of every month.

I dont get why you would have stranger living in your own home.

When I shut my front door I know the only muppet coming through the door is the one I let in. ;)

I dunno each to there own I guess! :D

Making life a lot more financially viable I suppose!

My own medium term plans involve buying a property and getting a lodger in for the financial benefit.

I literally just got turned down from a club there because I wasn't wearing shoes on a Saturday - wut! :(

Back to the shed and absinthe it is then.

Pretty much this, since my gf has moved out, I'm now paying mortgage & bills on a 3 bed house on my own, which doesn't leave a huge amount of disposable cash. The internet is something I didn't think of, So thanks :)

With regards bills, I was thinking all inclusive to save hassle, but obviously would need to have words if they were having 5 showers a day & leaving all the lights on ...

Damn! Which club was that? It might be different now, but when I was in Bristol in 2000/1, the dance venues (Academy/Creation/Café Blue) were quite lax - jeans, trainers etc. I think it was just hats that weren't allowed. Then in the cheese / meat market venues like the Works and Evolution, you had to go in shirt, trousers and shoes i.e. work clothes.

If you have single occupancy discount on your council tax, you would have to notify them so they can charge you the correct amount.
