Getting a new gas cooker - does it 'have' to be installed by a Corgi certified dude?

I'm going to be getting a new gas cooker soon (i live above a shop - leasehold) and I was just wondering if i legally have to get it fitted by a Corgi certified installer or can I do it myself?

Don't want to come to sell up - then get spanked for not being able to produce 'required' certificates etc.

thanks in advance!

Wouldn't think you'd need a certified gas engineer to connect a bayonet gas pipe. I sure as hell wouldn't bother.

This is a very controversial topic...

The answer is no, it does not have to be done by a CORGI/GasSafe certified installer.

depends how safe you want your house to be really OP. the obvious answer is yes, it does need to be fitted by a gas safe engineer and comission your supply why he's at it.
you could do it yourself of course, and always be a little nervy when turning the gas on. i wouldn't advise this.

You don't need to be corgi/gas safe certified but you do need to be competent and a measure of competence is approved training which in this case is corgi/gas safe certification ;)

Sweet - well I like living on the edge and i'm not (yet) a total **** - so i'll do it myself :D

Thanks all!

Hope when you say "installed" it doesn't also involve running gas piping to your kitchen! :p

lol nah - there was a gas cooker there previously :P

One question I do have actually..... i'm assuming the cooker will also need power (for the lights/timer etc) - will that be via a 'normal' socket?

I can't see one anywhere near the oven space, or in any of the cupboards to either side

more important than the light and timer, it will need electric for the ignition of the gas and will need plugging into a socket

just get a professional in

No you do not have to have it fitted by a "Gas Safe" engineer. It may hurt any sale if you dont have a "Gas Safe" certificate however.

More importantly since you live above a shop then your flat may count as a Multi Occupancy Dwelling. So you will need to make sure the gas cooker had a flame failure device fitted. Though most new appliances should have this as standard these days some retailers are still selling them without.

When i had a gas cooker and installed it myself ( sinple push fit type connection ) when i had my annual gas imspection the council condemed it until it was fitted by a qualified installer

Hello all what about a gas hob ? Sorry to butt in and steal your conversation.

Regular cheap hob 99 quid job 4 burners... is that the same fitting ? could i do it myself easy enough?

KABOOMMM

Insurance may also be voided if it's not installed by a qualifier installer.

YES it must be fitted by a corgi registered fitter, if not you will most probably void your tenancy agreement for one.

I would get a "Gas Safe" certified Engineer to do the work that way you covered from any potential legal repercussions.
