Hello :)

My 1TB Samsung HDD is faulty (working now but often stops working) so i will be sending it back to the retailer next week and replacing with a new 500gb Sata III HDD.

If i was to send the HDD back it will still have all my data on it. Whats the quickest/safest way of removing all my data?

Also i have windows 7 OEM so if i just delete everything on that HDD and then install the new HDD and enter my Windows 7 OEM key it will work correct?

Hope someone can help :p

Thanks

I believe the OEM key is tied to the motherboard, not other components. So that will be fine.

Why aren't you just getting a replacement 1TB drive? If its a Samsung F3 1TB, they are one of the best HDDs you can buy.

Have you backed it up? If so, format it in another PC or something.

I cant go without my PC so im just buying a new HDD this weekend and sending the faulty one back monday. The samsung HDD i have is the 1TB Samsung SpinPoint F3 HD103SJ.

Do you know how to delete everything off the HDD?

Fair enough. Yeah that's the one, I've got two. Great HDDs.

You need to format it, do you have another PC you can plug it into? Do you have your data backed up?

I dont have any important data just steam, xfire, load of games and google chrome. i can install them in a couple of hours so i would probably go for a fresh install of everything.

Yeah i have loads of Blank CD's, I just looked around and found DBAN that can delete everything of the HDD so thats sorted.

Out of these models what do you think i should go for?

WD5000AAKX
ST500DM002
ST3500413AS

Thanks

The Seagate without a doubt. The 7200.12's (750GB versions) that I have are still trouble free after 2 1/2 years and counting. Quick and quiet - although you'll hear them spin up intially, if they have been idle for a time, when you access data on them.
