Getting a single photo Printed

Just an update dudes. Ordered at around 9:50am yesterday morning as per my last post here, I went for 24" x 16" on "satin poster paper" don't know why I picked that, didn't really understand what was different, it was probably one of the cheaper options.

It came to £17.78 - the print was about £10.80 then £3.99 postage and then VAT added on. This was still 2 quid cheaper than Snappy Snaps in my town quoted.

I don't know where DS colour labs are based, but I'm in Northern Ireland and it came this morning and its stunning.

I feel this picture doesn't do it justice but I wanted to enclose something to give anybody that's looking to get a print done an idea. I've owned my DSLR for a nearly 2 years now and this is the first image I had printed.

Thanks for all the help

That's why I use DS colour labs, they are base in Stoke and normally send out same day or next day.

I normally pick glossy print, tried metallic once, looks great for metal objects obviously, too saturated for skin tones. But I wanted to see what it looks like.

P.s. I tend to order a few prints at once, postage is a flat rate I think.

lesson learned. did not know mate

The fine art prints from DSCL are really nice. I got a couple of 24" prints done on their 'Museum 310' paper last year and they looked fantastic. Got more comments on how lovely the paper was than on the photo :p

It's all there in their web page, there's a table. I'm on my phone atm.

Loxley you need an account, it's not open to the public.

It is now, they changed it a few months ago IIRC.

Out of interest do you use the fine art paper with loxley? Their standard prints are good but I've had some odd results and decided on a London company called the print space for my fine art stuff. Slightly cheaper than loxley and absolutely stunning. One of the reasons I chose them actually is because they had a tester pack you can buy of the 12(?) different types of paper they use. They make a massive difference to the final image, as you point out with the metallic!

I've had about 20 18x12 ish prints done by them now and all have come out perfectly.

I only used Loxley for Fine Art twice, both time came out great, they haven't given me a reason to switch yet :)

Right I'm back and in another pickle haha.

I've been overwhelmed by friends and family asking for prints of this photo. So only happy to sort them out (having a photo I took on display in someones house can hardly be a bad thing). I decided to get some more printed.

Without thinking, I ordered 18"x12" prints in keeping with the 3x2 ratio. My thinking was I'll just give them the print and they can go about getting it framed or whatever.

I was planing to get them cardboard photo folders you can get in order to give them to the said people(like a temporary frame). Turns out 18"x12" is a bit of an awkward size as its more of a poster size than a photo size and I can't find a form of keeping the print protected.

Any Ideas of what I could get? like some sort of slip of something just to keep it safe

You can make separate orders so they come packaged individually but obviously that's driving the postage through the roof.
