Right, I know jailbreaking discussion is allowed but I'm not sure about this...

Are we allowed to talk about methods of installion, pitfalls, recovery etc of the iOS7 beta if we ignore how you acquire the file?

Or like we're all hypothetical clueless developers? :)

I've got a spare iPhone 5 so I'd like to give it a run out when possible but I remember doing this for (I think) iOS5 and ending up with a working iPhone that refused to see any kind of signal so I'd like to avoid that if possible.

And if we're not, then sorry and I'll close the thread!

yep, I've done it. For anyone that encounters the problem of not being able to activate it you need to restore to 6.1.4 completely clean, don't activate it and then restore it to the ios 7 ispw, or at least thats what I did and it worked.

In the process of finding this out I also saw how easy it was to go back from ios 7 to 6 :)

Do you fool proof instruction or a link?

Hating this IOS7, wanna go back to 6.

You just need to put it in recovery mode and connect it back up to itunes.

You get to recovery by turning it off then holding home and power until the apple sign comes on the screen and then let go of the power button, I think thats right but maybe google it.

then itunes sees it as needing recovery and dowloads the latest version of iOS for it which in the official case is 6.1.4

Trying it now, I like the new font and some of the visual changes but I preferred the old look, it feels like an android skin at the moment. I've had plenty of crashes in 3rd party apps but also messaging, mail, safari and even the torch option (using iPhone 5) so will be moving back to iOS 6 soon as the stability issues are a real pain. Skype also crashes immediately and I use that a lot.

Performance seems decent enough, seems to struggle a touch picking up gestures but guessing that is just software tweaks.

Overall I don't mind it but there's nothing in there that's really breaking new ground.

Thats interesting, not had a single crash here?

Any help?
I installed it on mine but the first few screens are about setting up the wifi, which after doing it calls home and tells me it cannot continue as the phone is not a dev phone. How are people getting around this?

you need to put your phone into restore mode, connect it up to itunes, let it restore it to 6.1.4 then when it gets to the hello screen in iOS 6 hold shift and click on restore in itunes, it'll let you select a file to restore, select the iOS7 ISPW and it'll restore pre activated.

There are guides online and on youtube if you need to watch it to make sense of that.

I followed a guide this morning.
It said to restore into the latest version. I did that, ran though the wizard to get to the home screen. I then did the shift restore install of iOS7.
Ill try a youtube video later.

yeah don't go through the wizard, you need iOS6 at the hello, bonjour etc etc screen. Don't activate iOS6 and that does the trick for some reason.

Ive got a copy of IOS7 but in instructions its come with.. After install if advises going to website below for payment to activate it... Is this dodgy? Or is it what you non devs have done?

http://www.incredibili.net/iOS7

Basically they'll be charging you to add your UDID to their developer account.

Maybe.. or just taking your money and running. Either way it's unnecessary.

So I've just got another one that is saying I need to add my UDID to there site. http://udidactivation.com/

Can I just plow on the ispw and it work as a phone? Or would i not have any signal?

Alternatively, if this is again a dodgy one.. can someone trust me a link to download from please.

Download it from here, no need to pay

Ok, Ive got Ios7 but it wont activate. How do I activate!?! :)

Bah!

You don't, you have to restore it from a previously restored and fresh ios6 as I described above

Does it let you put folders in the dock and drop icons wherever you want on the grid?

Don't know about the folders but no the icon structure is still left to right, top to bottom

Yep got it thanks dude :)

No worries.. I've just put everything back to iOS 6 and my sim back into my S4.

Surprised me really but I think I might have made a semi permanent move to android. I used to yo yo between both with iOS as my base 80% of the time.. that appears to have switched over!

Plus I don't really want to ruin my experience of iOS 7 with buggy software, there are small issues all over the place.

For those mentioning that you have to do it from a restore...you don't.

I just did a back up, and shift clicked and updated. The reason for this was that the phone is already activated.

It just pushes the update through with no problems....any particular reason why people are stating that you need to restore it back to a clean version of iOS 6.1.4?

Also followed the same process for my touch and it worked fine...

Yes, because in some cases you most certainly do need to do it that way, I did exactly what you said and I ended up with a phone that couldn't be activated, it wouldn't get past the welcome screen.

Then I did it the way I said (after reading a guide online explaining how to bypass activation) and it worked.

Just downloading actually, whilst I never use my iPhone 5 these days I do get a fair amount of use out of my iPads so I might as well give them a go with it :)

They've got to move that upwards arrow by the swipe to unlock, I've been using iOS since it's launch and I'm still getting caught out and opening the control panel not unlocking my device, it also looks like a little moustache which is weird.

Not if you're not a developer, you'll be walking in shouting about having invalidated your warranty.

Out of interest, my iPhone 5 has a power button that only responds when you press one side of the power button.
