Hello all,

At home I've got a wireless network with my router and cable modem in the next room. However, my xbox 360 and PC are practically next to each other. Is it possible to connect my xbox 360 to the internet and use Live without buying a wireless adapter or have a stupidly long cable going in to the next room to plug in to my router?

Cheers for any replies or help.

Yes, you can connect the 360 into a spare ethernet port, and then bridge the connections, so that the 360 can use it too.

Buy a 1m ethernet cable or however far away they are, then in Network settings, bridge the connection. It's an option on the connection. Bridge whichever connection is right. I'm sure someone here can help, cause I don't know which one it is.

Whats the difference? I'm using the cable provided in the box of the premium pack.

I think I've managed to get my xbox on to my network, but can't connect to xbox live? Any ideas?

Crossover cables are needed to hook up the xbox to PC and then use Internet Connection Sharing to get on Live.

I got away without using a cross-over cable. The PC wasn't to sure, but it did work. I can only assume that either the 360 or my PC could auto detect and switch accordingly.

'Most' modern ethernet controllers will auto-detect what they are connected to, and switch operating mode accordingly. This includes switching pin-outs on non-crossover cables.

Yes, that'd be fine if my router was next to my PC, which it isn't.

I have my PC connected to a wireless router in a separate room which is of course connected to the cable modem.

So now I need to have:

Xbox 360 -> PC ~wireless~> Router -> Modem

I've bridged local area connection and 1394 connection, is this correct? The only other option I have in my Network Connections is the wireless connection.

Umm, no.

I'm hoping the guy who posted the example was just using the IEEE connection for illustration purposes.

I very much doubt you have your 360 connected to your Firewire port.

No, the 1394 connection is wrong. You want to bridge your wireless connection with the Local Area connection.

Hey, if you resolve this could you please post how? as I'm at exactly the same stage myself, the connection is failing on the ip test.

Cheers, Dan

Managed to do it but not sure how :) If you want to check some settings with yours mate email me :)

I've not managed to get the 1 month free Gold membership though??

Did it just give you silver? It should give you a months Gold and tell you about it when you sign up to Silver membership. Is your 360 second hand?
