Getting no POST

Hi there,

I am getting no POST using my 400W PSU. If I put in my HD4870 I get POST, although I can't plug in 6-Pin Connectors as I don't have them on the PSU I have. I put in my old Graphics Card and I get no POST. Any help so I can use my PC slightly?
 
My new graphics card does, which I get a POST but it wont show screen as it is graphics failure because it doesn't have the 6-Pin connectors in. My old graphics card doesn't need anything else, just the PCI-E port, but it wont show POST.
 
Sorry I am getting confused, that's not not hard for me ;)

You have 4870 with the molex to 6 pin converters? but you have not plugged them in?
If the statement is true then connect them up and see what happens.

Your old gpu does not need external power but when switching the pc on can you here the pc loading windows then your monitor come into life.

Can you also list all specs, have you tried CMOS reset and single memory modules.

Lol ok, sorry, I'll try to explain more.

Yes, I do have a 4870 with 6-Pin things, on it, BUT, my PSU I have now (As my other is being returned) does not have 6-Pin's on it, so I cannot plug it in.

Yes, my old GPU doesn't need external power, but I get no POST doing it. I have tried a CMOS reset, but I'm unsure if I did it corretly, I shall try single memory modules now.

I see :) but did you get the molex to 6 pin cable like I linked above in the box, as you can then plug it staright into the molex on the psu :)

I don't see the point in getting them at the minute, as my old PSU will be back soon and working.

How do I do a CMOS reset?
 
Can you test your old gpu in another machine to check to see if that works ok, you need to have your PSU with the 6 pin connectors for your 4870 to work.

What was wrong with your PSU to return it.
Are you sure there arnt any molex to 6 pin adapters in the box, I bought a 4850 and this had the adapter - sorry to bang on about this :)

Just trying to check if it is a motherboard fault.

Ok, I will try it in my dads PC (Hopefully it has PCI-E in it.

And I know the 4870 needs that.

The PSU would constantly light up with the red light, showing a power failure.

And I'm pretty sure there wasn't, I can check though.
 
Right, my dads PC can't handle PCI-E so I can't check, it was working when I took it out, and I put it in a static proof packet thing too.
 
What motherboard have you got, when you installed the spare psu did you install the 4/8 pin for cpu power as well as the 24 pin atx connector.

fight might spin because the card won't produce video signal but there is power running through it so the fan gets powered.
your 4870 should still work without external power, at least it should go into windows in a sort of "limp mode". try testing the ram memory at another computer?
