Looking forward to it?

If you havent got substantial savings/uber pension plan how are you gonna survive?

on the £60 a week the gov gives you?

Just been watching Dispatches on ch4 about pensioners...jesus its a bit of a nightmare ehh.

Not eating, not putting heating on to survive from one day to the next; some of those featured are in dire straits indeed.

it makes depressing watching blimey...

i forsee a raft of pensioners topping themselves the first really cold winter we get

Private pension plan = win.

EVERYONE should look into a private pension.

Those on a low income should look out again, since they can't afford to buy a pension they could live on. May as well cross your fingers and hope the state will support you.

its not right how the government are treatin these pensioners, as they have proberly
worked for around 20 years, the last thing they should be worring about is whether to either eat or be warm. just say i woudnt like to be it that place when i am older.

The £60, is that after rent, gas and water has been paid?

nope before all em. (unless you own your own home and have paid off the mortgage)

i guess though, if you're living in council housing then you get rent and council tax paid for you (?) but gas and electricity nope you'd have to pay for them.

But most of the pensioners (on the program) kept their heating off for most of the time because it was so expensive.

I'll be returning to Australia at the end of this year, where my missus and I have already bought a house in Adelaide (South Australia). I also have an Australian superannuation plan that I'll keep topping up until I hit retirement age, and an investment property in Tasmania.

10 years ago, I was an hopeless spendthrift with a small mountain of debt. It took a lot of effort to turn that corner, pay off my debts, change my behaviour, and start living like an adult.

Financial security begins with financial responsibility.

On the other hand the 'pensioners' should have done something theirselves to ensure they would have a decent living when they retired.

Im very fortunate to have a good job with a excellent pension, but i wont rely on that, i will try to delve in to property. Unfortunately my generation will most likely work till 70 (im only 30) paying for today's old people.

People are living far too long tbh:p

I'm 26. I realistically expect the retirement age to be at least 70 by the time I retire and I expect zero state pension. Relying on state handouts sounds like a very dangerous game.

I feel for anyone who can't afford to save though. :(

Stop talking rubbish. A lot of the current pensioners are from the era of WW2 and wife stays at home to bring up a family. I know my gran would only be on state pension if it was for my grandad receiving a good British Steal pension. Back in those days people never really thought about sorting out pensions, was always assumed that the Government would look after you.

Mother died at 62, father at 63 so longevity doesn't run in the family. By the time i get there retirement age will probadly be up tp 70, which i won't see if family history is anything to go by!

Sounds sad but I'm going from week to week as it is, I haven't really got a plan for the future. I'm working to save for a house and so I hope that stands me in good stead tbh :)
