Haha, it really can cause people serious problems. So eh, 10 years ago were you into running? Didn't think so.

yeah its called footballer syndrome, oh look he tapped my ankle now im going to roll about on the floor pretending i just got shot, whereas in rugby a guy gets 8 holes put through his face from being studded and hes up and ready to maul the guy

anyone who uses the above excuse and isnt over 50 should be ridiculed in front of a large audience

Rowing machine is the best allover workout you can get, once you`ve lost the weight get a bullworker to sort out whichever bits and pieces ya like. Worked for me,,16 stone to 12 in 6 months.

Call it an excuse if you like but I know a couple of (now ex) runners that'd disagree with you.

Agreed, rowing is brilliant for weight loss.

Was it a cheapy one?

The magnetic one I have now was only £60. Me and my daughter wore a flywheel one out (£30 in a sale) in a year, the tension strap wore through and snapped.

It is quiet enough to use in front of a telly but a bit big to have sat in the living room :)

Eat less, im finding it quite easy, 1 week and 5 pounds lost, and do some sit ups nightly, dosent have to be a lot of them, 20-30 nightly, im lazy so this is the hard part. Thats really the easiest and most effective way, but I dont think you want to cut down on drinking do you?

Drink less beer. Do more exercise. It's not hard.

Rowing worked for me. Initially I exercised so that I could lose weight, and lose the beer gut that I'd developed at uni, so I had to cut down on what I ate and drank. Now I exercise so that I can eat and drink what I like without putting on any weight.

That sounds ideal. I'll have a look around.

start jogging as i suggested and include sit ups and press ups in sets of 10 for 3x 3min rounds after 20 min jog, with a minute break in between sets

it literally is that simple

theres no easy way to lose your gut the only thing is cardio vascular excersize you can get an abb cradle but in my experiense (3 years thai boxing) abb cradles are for people that are playing at it

youve just got to put the hard work in

also i try and follow a low fat diet although ATM i have wandered off the straight and narrow as i stopped training at xmas and started drinking a little bit too much again ;)

Agreed, (but if you are out of breath - then stop and wait 'as long as it takes to continue')

Less consumption and increased effort will always increase life span

Punch bag + weights. Then do lots of cardio, sit ups with a 25lb weight on your chest really help to make you sweat just don't don't them if you can't.

I don't do a lot of running myself, I don't like machines, hence home gym is cheaper for me.

always had a beer gut then took some advice from a pt instructor in the navy.

i was playing 5 a side football twice a week whihc did help a bit i guess but i nver changed really what i ate but just ate between 7am and 7pm and lost the weight and didnt really stop drinking

dont be silly. someone who is new to exercise could well struggle with the knees or shin splints if they start straight away onto a regime of high impact exercise.

there are many things that were never heard of 10 years ago but are more than real now.

Sorry to **** on your parade, but I was told to pretty much quit high impact sport 12 years ago. I was suffering from something called Osgood Schlatters desease which basically means I have a large permanent lump below my knee now. Unfortunately I didn't listen and now have a permanently slightly weaker knee. I am still able to play squash a couple of times a week and walking/light running is fine but had to quit American Football, most of my normal football and medium distance running.

anyone suggest some exercises to try and reduce the growing beer gut i'm sporting these days

Dude I run 3k a day and do in excess of 90 press/sit up's per day and I am still 19stn 10lbs, a mate of mine said the most effective way to get pounds off your stomach area is to really make that area burn by doing as many sit up as possible (he does 350 while watching telly), an alternative to give good results quickly is to purchase a sit up bench and do reps of crunches/sit ups broken up by intervals of back extensions/elevations.
To make it more difficult hold a free weight against your chest, you can pretty much eat what you want as long as you burn the calories :D
