getting rid of the beer gut

I used to be 19st  Now im down to 12st in year, so yea, anything is possible. I did get the Lateral thigh trainer, a great machine, the only really problem is sometimes the chain can snap, although its just a simple bike chain.

Hey,

If you want to lose weight I found HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) is probabaly the best way to go about it .. Google it and you'll get loads of sites explaining what HIIT is.

There are various ways of doing HIIT, such as cycling, sprinting etc.. But my personal favourite is doing burpees!! These babies are the ultimate conditioning exercise in my opinion, as they work the entire body.. If you're not sure what a burpee is, do a search on youtube to see a video of someone performing them.

I do 100 burpees as fast as I can 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and for the rest of the week I only do 50 as fast as I can)
I've been doing them for a month now and my fitness levels have increased quite a bit.. When I first started it took me 15 mintues to do 100, I can now do that in under 10, and they are also a great fat burner as I've lost about 11lbs by sorting my diet out and eating healthy..

As you can see this is a very short work out, but it really does leave you hurting after and best of all they dont cost you a penny, there's no gym membership or equipment needed and you can even do them in your own home...

I both love and hate doing them, so this might not be for everyone, but im certainly finding its working for me.. Hope this helps..

Utter Filth is right, as I mentioned earlier :)

a mate of mine said the most effective way to get pounds off your stomach area is to really make that area burn by doing as many sit up as possible (he does 350 while watching telly), an alternative to give good results quickly is to purchase a sit up bench and do reps of crunches/sit ups broken up by intervals of back extensions/elevations.
To make it more difficult hold a free weight against your chest, you can pretty much eat what you want as long as you burn the calories

Nonsense unfortunately. Doing 350 situps might burn some calories but has nothing to do with the fat around the stomach.

Diet is most important. Then weight training. Then cardio.

And obviously you can eat what you want as long as you burn the calories but it's a LOT easier not to drink 2 pints of beer (or whatever) than it is to burn off those calories in the gym.

Dude I run 3k a day and do in excess of 90 press/sit up's per day and I am still 19stn 10lbs, a mate of mine said the most effective way to get pounds off your stomach area is to really make that area burn ...

If that's mostly muscle your fine, if thats mostly fat and your running / working out a lot you really need to look at your diet.

Basically a beer gut is fat, it's also the favourite place for men to store fat - so it's normally the last place to lose it from.

If your finding it really difficult to lose fat from your stomach try speaking to a personal trainer at your gym. Exercise and good diet will take you a long way but that last bit might require the right exercise and the right diet though.

I found it best to get into a routine I liked and then stuck on the headphones, made it go past a lot faster. Also I heard, its always good to change routines after awhile as the body gets used to the same routine and doesnt burn fat as fast. Though I dunno if thats true or not.

Is there any danger of buying a cheaper spinner Flywheel bike? I've seen one on a competitors site for £70 inc p+p (This is with a £10 discount through google checkout, maybe you could guess the site :p). I'm not exactly made of money right now you see.

If you're feeling helpfull, PM me and I'l send you a link.

Yes, exercise @ 60-75% of your MHR (depending on metabolism) DOES burn more calories FROM Fat and less from sugar / glycogen. If you are in any doubt, please get a metabolic gas test done.

Nobody is doubting that you can burn a lot of calories from HIIT, but you simply burn more from fat @ 60-75% MHR.

That may be true for your average person but if you maintain your diet/weight training regime in conjunction with HIIT then there is solid empirical evidence to show that more FAT will be lost from HIIT than 60-75% MHR exercise.

That level of exercise burns a higher PERCENTAGE of calories from fat.
If you do more intense exercise then you will burn a lower percentage from fat, but because an overall higher number of calories.
This means that you will burn more actual calories from fat than a lower intensity exercise.

People, I don't think he wants to go into all the science behind it, he wants it simple.

If you look over at the stickies in the sports section, Gordy has all the info you will need.

The best way to shed fat is to do around 40 minutes of cardio (doesn't matter what) 3 or 4 times a week. Importantly, you must eat less calories than you burn per day.

"tone" doesn't exist, "tone" just means less body fat.

Try the ketosis diet that Gordy suggests, more fuit\veg\protein, less carbs (pasta\bread\chips).

It's going to be hard work no matter how you look at it, you will be hungry and you will sweat a lot.

This is not true and is a very common assumption people make, the only way to lose weight/flab around your stomach is to reduce your bodyfat percentage. The gut is usually the last place from which guys will have excess fat (for women its the thighs and the hips). Situps will do nothing except make your stomach muscles stronger/bigger but as long as there is a layer of fat surrounding them, there will be no definition :)
