Getting the most from the Lunar Eclipse!?

(Didn't see this thread before posting my other thread showing this image. My bad!)

Greengiant, if you gave each of the eclipsed moons space for their entire speres then that picture would look great. Give it a wee white border as well :)

As for the cameras, the S9600 has 9mp, but the S3 has a better zoom, IS but only 6mp. Is the lower MP likely to be a big problem for this type of shot? I'm still thinking about a second-hand slr, but lenses would be a bind. And expensive.

two of my shots, taken using a Fuji S5000. both cropped

Like this, perhaps?

MP does help as it lets you crop closer. However best to get as close as you can with optics, rather than relying on cropping.

Very nice shots people, Managed to a get a couple of deceent ones myself but need to get them online. Also managed to get a decent couple of saturn, which was actually easy to shoot than the moon i found.

And if you have never seen one, you have to see a Total Solar Eclipse, the most amazing thing you will see in your lifetime.

Someone at work has said a similar thing to me.
I don't know why, but it just doesn't sound like it would impress me that much. Probably if I was there I would be gob smacked though.

I saw the solar eclipse back in 2000 or something.

Think you could only see it in Cornwall so loads of people came down to see it!

Was absolutely amazing! Most beautiful natural thing ever!

If you are using a tripod i would say keep it at ISO 100. Its the exposure length and metering mode that im not sure on myself.

Think i remember a thread about moon shots not so long ago.

Sorry about the thread revival but I only got my S5600 today, had a quick go without a tripod -

In that I can quite clearly see the square crops around each image on my TFT (you might be using lower contrast or a CRT?) so I have cropped much closer and sharpened it a little bit. Hope you don't mind.

sorry for late post, but out of 20 pics this was my best:
