The battery isn't removeable like acer or dell laptops. I'm going to guess it's screwed under one of the 5 removeable panels so I'll have to wait 'till I'm home tomorrow and get a watch screwdriver on it.

Yep, just be careful as they can give out up to 1000v.As above, see if its the inverter. Little tube device beneath and not part of the tft panel. Easy to fix and change.
I've got caught by one also...Those inverters fail more often than the backlight itself! they output a voltage high enough to strike a plasma, so they will give you a lovely tingly feeling if you touch them when live
