Ghostbusters Reboot

Now that metacritic has opened to the public, they've hammered the film. I wonder how the professional reviewers can have such a different opinion of the film. Not that 60 percent is stellar from the professional reviewers, but there's a disconnect when the public rating is 2.4 out of 10.

you've gotta take into account your sample... are the people voting on that really representative of the general public or is that vote skewed rather a lot by the vocal community on the internet who wanted to hate the film before it has already been released...

I've not seen it yet but I suspect it is a mediocre comedy, not a disaster but also not as good as the original.

I'm just curious as to why this full on PR push for Melissa McCarthy. Looking through the IMDb list nothing really stands out to me. Everyone has spoken of Bridesmaids, never seen it. I saw all the publicity for Spy, also haven't seen it. The only thing that I remember that stood out as I used to see endless advert previews on Comedy Central for Mike and Molly back in 2010. Also never seen it, as it felt trashy like it was trying to create a better version of King of Queens.

I really enjoyed it. So did the missus. I thought McKinnon was fantastic. Hemsworth was amusing too. It was essentially a Ghostbusters film. Nothing more, nothing less.

The rage from the internet has been hilarious and sad in equal measure.

You're broadcasting that you're puzzled about why she's getting a push, on the back of never having seen any of her stuff?

The heat and spy were reasonable, bridemaids is marmite, and the rest of her stuff is guff.
Will investigate ghostbusters another time, looking for a gb film, dont care for or have anything against melissa, quite enjoyed spy. That moped scene.

Back and I din't hate it /gasp

Seen the 3D version and have to say it's one of not the best 3D effects I have seen. Shame 3D seems to be on the way out. When it's done right its well mint.

Pile of crap

Pretty much follows the original movie outline and infuses it with irritating characters.

Lets see:

Kate McKinnon: Constantly putting on irritating voices throughout the movie and just acting goofy, yet she's meant to be the Ray character. They might as well have given her a set of buck teeth, a mad scientist wig and have her just constantly gibber in a corner while rocking back and forth.

Kristen Wigg: Just seemed like she realised what she got herself into and didn't want to be there.

Melissa McCarthy: Not as annoying as i first thought she would be but got irritating when she went into shriek mode.

Leslie Jones : Shouty Shouty Shouty Shouty.

Chris Hemsworth: Probably the height of his "hilarity" was seeing a phone inside a fish tank then trying to reach through the glass 2 or three times while saying "ow". Might as well have chucked in some canned laughter while they were at it.

Cameos of the originals were all cringworthy as ****.

Lots of repeated phrases from the first movie.

Chose the destructor form? Why? Gozer did it in the original and its hinted Zuul and Gozer will be in the sequel to this if there is one, so is that also a "choose your form" finale? Originality ftw..

The end bad guy was over the top in terms of size but one proton blast from one character basically burned half of his head off. They seemed to go all out to make it much bigger than Stay Puft from the original but ultimately it wasn't convincing and nothing more than a forgettable enemy. I'd say that Stay Puft from the original actually had more screen time as well, this one just appears, stomps a car, smacks a building then gets sucked into a hole after getting shot in the crotch...

Somehow all the army characters survive the movie despite being immediately outside the building Rowan bursts through.

Stay Puft Balloon? Just why? Oh right to somehow tie it into the original despite this having nothing to do with it.

Slimer ? Just why? Oh right to somehow tie it into the original despite this having nothing to do with it.

They go to the bother of making Ghost Traps and are looking into how to build a containment Unit.....yet they have weapons that shred and explode the ghosts, so wtf is the point of containing them if they can just obliterate them?

Its painfully obvious the dancing sequence was meant to be before the final battle but due to the script leaking and people absolutely crapping on that part of the story they chopped it out and slapped it into the credits.

5/10 - Nope, tried but nope. A few sparing laughs but overall was just a completely different type of Ghostbusters film which I did not like. The characters in the original were believeable to semi-believable, whereas all of these are completely over the top or completely toned down.

McCarthy I like, but without the swearing being allowed she just doesn't have that same humour, Wiig was exactly the same as every other film, Jones was shouty black stereotype and McKinnon who everyone seems to enjoy in the role was just cringe worthy for most parts with the odd good line thrown in. Hemsworth's total unrealistic stupidity grated about half way through.

Good special effects but this is very much a kids movie with a queef :p

I think the line I probably laughed hardest at was :

Bitches can't bust no ghosts

Which it turns out was improv

I have no problem with remakes as I prefer modern films, terrible cheap effects draw me out and unfortunately a lot of classics are ageing but Ghostbusters 1 had such a good witty script and pacing. I do find it funny people who were saying only the original people should do another Ghostbusters, they did, it was Ghostbusters 2 and it was crap :p

Oh boy. I finally watched it

All i can say is it wasn't as terrible as i expected. The bursts of humour were predictable but utterly off the wall which when i was paying attention, some actually made me laugh.

I found it better than Total recall, Robocop and all the other crappy remakes that have happened "recently"

The 3d was nice, added massively to the film tbh one of the few films ive seen where it was utterly justified. Lots of cameos, lots ofr nods to the original. 4/10 for that alone.

It's not as bad as made out by some. Not the best plot, can be picked apart - but that is the case of most films at the minute.

Enjoyed the cameos - they were meant to be simple fun and were.

They tried to make it new with nods to the original and I feel they managed it.

6/10

The plot is pretty much the bare outlines of the original, as for nods to the original all they do is recycle dialogue or little set pieces from the original , "mass hysteria, "total protonic reversal" "burn in hell", "welcome aboard", Stay Puft and Slimer etc. There's lots of bits of dialogue that are pretty much verbatim from the original movie. And for a movie that goes out of its way to be set in a different universe all that was unnecessary.

But looking at its box office returns so far ($144 million on a budget of $158 million) its not exactly setting any records, well maybe for a movie that might barely hobble over the 200 million mark after a few months, and if it manages that much id say a sequel is very unlikely as this was meant to be a re-launch of the franchise.

Bottom line, this director hasn't got a clue how to make a Ghostbusters movie. All he wants to do is consistently cast Women in all of his movies because apparently Men "aren't funny". This movie being a Ghostbusters movie comes second to his little "needs moar women" gimmick. He was by far the worst possible choice for a movie like this.

This guy completely shreds feig and his idiotic need to be a one trick pony when it comes to casting, worth a watch imo.
