Giant cattle to be bred back from extinction

Good time for meat lovers!

Me and my mates were discussing the possibilites of a 'mammoth' steak, from a wooly mammoth the other night. It would have been a colossal dine.

I know exactly how they will do it!

They have found a gloup of ember from a tree with a liccle fly in it and using a syringe they.....wait a minute.. ;)

Are the banji of any real use?

Do they provide some vital link in a massive chain or are they just another redundant cog?

Killing all the plankton -yes ****ing retarded idea and would have horrific consequences.

Killing off some random "higher" creature not so much.

The earth has survived perfectly well with creatures exterminating others for millennia, it's not going to change because you killed a cute wickle dolphin.

Any form of unique life shouldn't be exterminated under any circumstance unless it causes serious illness. I firmly believe in conservation of species, no matter how trivial they might appear to be.

So edgy I almost cut myself on your post! If you don't really care about the extinction of whatever animals may be, this auroch thread is a peculiar place to be - although not as peculiar as your apparent disdain or lack of empathy for the fact that thousands of species the world over are needlessly being driven to the edge of extinction when all it takes to avoid the vast majority of that is a little awareness of the consequences of activities that can and should be entirely avoided and diverted elsewhere. However, most of those animals don't serve a useful purpose though, so they can go, right?

Hardly edgy it's the way things have been for the last few hundred thousand years or so of human life.

Why?

This is an excellent way to advance our current genetic technology and may provide useful results either directly as food etc or indirectly as providing us with a better way to improve current livestock.

Not really, it's not needless it's just advantages to us to let them die rather than spend lots to preserve them.

when all it takes to avoid the vast majority of that is a little awareness of the consequences of activities that can and should be entirely avoided and diverted elsewhere.

Not really just awareness then is it if it means we have to stop certain activities is it?

Taking your earlier example by not building the damn we may have to spend far more getting water to where it's needed or producing the energy that the hydroelectric damn would have made.

However, most of those animals don't serve a useful purpose though, so they can go, right?

No, many animals serve a purpose and should not be killed for the sake of killing them, but if they happen to be put at risk/killed by our activities then it may be wise to preserve a few of them or if this technology comes to fruition their DNA in case there are "unforeseen consequences" to their extinction.
