Gibbo a question about segate 7200.10

FWIW, I bought 4 of these drives in August - and AFAICR they didn't have any glue of top of them - but all four are very quiet. They would have to be as I have two Raptors and 3 of the Seagates in this machine and all I can hear for most of the time is a quiet humming - which comes mainly from the 3 fans in my system.

On another point, in the reviews of this drive 2 people mention a jumper to switch from normal to high speed mode. No instructions came with these drives so could anybody in the know tell me which position the jumpers should be in for the Hi Speed mode.

Thank you

Just completely remove the jumper, no instructions came with mine either but there is a small diagram on the HD itself which confirms this fact :)

Its actually smaller than a normal jumper, mine was anyway & i had to get a pair of needle nose pliars to pull it out.
Its about half the size of a normal jumper.

At the end of the day, if you want to be guaranteed a drive with pink glue, then I don't see why you shouldn't pay extra for cherry picking.

When you order a drive, you get make and capacity and specifications you order online. You pay delivery to have it delivered to your door.

The prices you pay, do not include the time to cherry pick items for you.

Cos some shops, wich sell oem hdd's, like the shop where i got it from, let you inspect the hdd's before buying, in this case the hdd's were in see-through boxes where i could see they were definatly pink glued ones...
And the price there is same as in *** avrage online shop...

However makes sence with an online shop tho, if i'd own one i'd sort the boxes of 20 hdd's with a label saying silent or normal edition, and sell the silent for 5 quid more or whatever...
