Hi there

Well first of all OcUK has won exclusive on the first batch of 980 G1 and even better that stock is now here, nowhere else in the UK has this truly stonking card.

I've now tested several of the 980's from different partners and this Gigabyte G1 absolutely destroys the others for features and overclocking performance.

In short I managed an easy 1600MHz core and 8000MHz memory with just +87mv with fans set to 100% the card was struggling to exceed 45c under-load, this cooler is by far the most powerful and with fans at 50% it is pretty much silent and temperatures were holding around 55c. The G1 cooler has me mighty impressed!!!

The ASIC quality of the card I tested was 77% !

Then the G1 has one other very cool feature, FLEX TECHNOLOGY, one card can run upto six monitors which also makes the G1 cards perfect for professionals!!!

For those who don't wish to overclock this card was also the fastest out of the box card as well with a stock boost speed of 1400MHz+ :)

Some benchmarks of this card at 1600/8000 with 100% fan in an X99 rig with CPU at 4.60GHz and memory 3000MHz:-

GIGABYTE WINDFORCE 3X 600W cooling system once again break the record and bring the air cooling capacity up to 600W by only using 2 slots heights. The WINDFORCE 3X 600W cooling system is equipped with five 8mm and one 6mm composite cooper heat-pipes , special fin architecture, unique blade fan design, and GIGABYTE “Triangle Cool” technology. This not only provides an effective heat dissipation capacity but also enables higher performance due to a lower temperature.

GIGABYTE Flex display technology can automatically detect any connected monitors and achieve multi-display gaming up to 4 monitors at the same time by using various output groups. Users could enjoy the best gaming experience in ultra HD resolution with extended flexibility in arranging monitor configurations and making future system upgrade extremely easy.

With GPU Gauntlet™ Sorting, the Gigabyte SOC graphics card guarantees the higher overclocking capability in terms of excellent power switching. Ultra Durable VGA board provides dramatic cooling effect on lowering both GPU and memory temperature by doubling the copper inner layer of PCB. Ultra Durable VGA board reduces voltage ripples in normal and transient state, thus effectively lowers noises and ensures higher overclocking capability. Ultra Durable VGA board allows more bandwidth for electron passage and reduces circuit impedance. The less circuit impedance, the more stable flow of current and can effectively improve power efficiency.

A truly stunning card and by far the most powerful and possibly quietest cooling solution I've come across yet and the Flex Technology is a feature no competitor has. :)

The new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980/970 is powered by the next generation NVIDIA Maxwell Architecture, giving you incredible performance, unmatched power efficiency, and cutting-edge features.

Maxwell is the most advanced GPU architecture ever made, designed to be the engine of next generation gaming. Inspired by light, it was designed to solve some of the most complex lighting and graphics challenges in visual computing. For the first time, gaming GPU's can dynamically render indirect light using the new VXGI (Voxel Global Illumination technology). Scenes are significantly more lifelike as light interacts more realistically in the game environment.

The GTX 980 is the worlds fastest GPU and the GTX 970 offers the most advanced performance in its class. Each delivers 2x the performance of previous-generation card, bringing new gaming experiences to virtual reality, and ultra resolution 4k displays.

Enable the detail of 4k monitors, on a 1080P display. DSR produces smoother images by rendering a game at a high resolution, then downscaling it to the native resolution of the display using advanced filtering.

GeForce GTX 980 and 970 cards support tear-free, super-fast NVIDIA G-Sync monitor display technology including 4k. Together, these technologies provide the most immersive and competitive gaming experiences possible.

Are those temperatures right?!?

Yes, today is rather cool which helps, but the cooler is by far the most powerful yet, its one of the largest and how three powerful fans which at 100% are loud but hugely powerful.

Even more impressive though is with the fans at 50% its very quiet, near silent and temps hover around 55c.

yet others haven't. i understand though its business :p

Others don't have stock, we do! :)

Gigabyte are directing stock to ourselves, we priority over our competitors with Gigabyte because they like us more, afterall we do reviews and show end-users what this new stuff can do. I don't see our competitors showing the end-users what these cards can do and helping out with questions. :)

Hi there

I have being playing some more seems with a little less core voltage and slower fan speed I can overclock higher, now upto 1629MHz and 8100Mhz, see updated Heaven 4.0 results:-

Gibbo are these results realistic; For example if I was to purchase one would I be close to 1600mhz or would AISC depend on this a lot? If you're able to say i'm extremely likely to get 1600 regardless of the silicon. And the temperatures and fans are quiet at these speeds I'll purchase one :P

Nope I won't say that as overclocking has no guarantees, silicon plays a big part as does knowledge and quality of power supply used.

You might only achieve 1500MHz or 1700MHz, it is not guaranteed but the chances are improved obviously with this card.

980 reference card not impressive at all on stock temps 85c plus :( disappointing

Setup a fan curve, the stock cooler is designed to throttle before it builds up fan RPM, pretty dumb but that is how the NVIDIA drivers currently operate. So setup a fan curve and you will be under 70c with ease and no more throttling. :)

That is because NVIDIA have to assume that everyone is stupid, because you can bet your bottom dollar that there will be at least one person who sets the fans to a constant 10% speed to keep it quiet, and then fries the card. :p

Ignore what they said, if it breaks they will never know you set up a fan profile. Same goes for if you overclock it.

This.

You could always wait until other retailers get stock and OCUK get more. The way i'm reading it is OCUK are charging an extra £20 because they are the only ones with it atm, basically making a quick extra profit while they can.

This is indeed correct, our run-rates dictate we can sell 50+ per day, we have less than 50 left and are only stockist and Gigabyte can't ship us more for another week.

As such we'd rather slow the sales. Once they go to pre-order we shall move back to £299 :)

So, this 970 or Asus Strix 970? Which is better in terms of performance and noise. Quiet as possible the better!

Asus Strix, MSI Gaming and Gigabyte G1 are all capable of pretty much operating in silence.

Gigabyte G1 is the longest, Asus Strix is the tallest and MSI Gaming is most compact.

The Gigabyte G1 has the best cooling ability with fans at 100%, then Asus and then MSI last.

Thats the dilemma, Strix is just too damn sexy!

Yeah but its gonna be hell'a noisy at 100%. Who's got the best warranty service, should the dreaded happen and I need to RMA it?

But the fans would never operate at 100% under any circumstances unless you manually set them. But I like to have the option for power and noise, whereas MSI don't even give you the option.

Fans aside the Asus Strix and Gigabyte G1 cooler are superior to the MSI in cooling performance, then Asus and Gigabyte give you fans with more RPM range to choose from.
