Gibson les Paul?

Guitar wise, ALWAYS buy in person (doesn't matter if it's new or used) guitars are organic things,

Back in 1978 my girlfriend (now Mrs Dimple) wanted to buy me a Fender Stratocaster for an engagement present.
I basically traveled all the way around the country to find my dream guitar - London, Sheffield, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Derby, Liverpool, Newcastle upon Tyne and so on but nothing felt right in my hands so I gave up.
About 3 months later I was in my local music shop when I noticed a new Strat on the wall and asked to try it acoustically and shouted 'Excalibur'. The guitar still has that name :D

I can't find a good original photo but it has been messed with over the years but is acknowledged by many local guitarists to be the best Strat they've played.

Of all the guitars that you sold, do you miss any one of them ?

No but if I won the Lottery (or a job like yours :)) I would have a collection.
I mean look at that Les Paul you posted, I want to make love to it and Si's would get it.
My rhythm guitarist placed his new Telecaster in my hands last night and I had to rush to the toilet.
About a month ago a mate shouted me to the stage before they went on to show me his new £3,500 PRS and I refused to try it even though he insisted. Of course I tried it and he ruined my life.

Never been a fan of PRS guitars.. something about them just lacking.

The 1 guitar I regret selling was my Gibson R7 Goldtop.

I actually miss this Black Custom 22 that I traded in for the Les Paul a little, but just a little. As nice as it is to look at, there was no bond. I pick up the Gibson and I find myself smiling having it in my hands. Literally smiled, like when you pick up your child. I don't remember getting that smile with this PRS. (It was also the least resonant of all the guitars that I have)

I also get why people say PRS doesn't have that mojo too. I love PRS guitars but something about the right Gibson, just something.

Finally you see the light :D

@ Raymond

Have you got any tunes for download because I'd love to hear you playing?

:p

You said you found the one in the soulless simulator of a guitar with electronics that make it sound like an acoustic! :p

My Gibson Zebrawood only 400 ever made....

P.S I don't have décor that bad...That was the Static Home I was living in while I built my house!

Finally you see the light :D

I was even looking at a telecaster before Christmas too.......yes I remember what I said about them being ugly. But I just couldn't nail down what I prefer.

Do I want maple or rosewood neck
Do I want a 3 or 6 sadle bridge
What radius neck
Do I want the S-1 switch
What about contour body
Which pick ups
etc etc etc

Plus there are so many more choices and people who make Teles, don't need to pay that much for a good one since it is the simplest guitar you can make.

I forgot to ask, how much does that LP weight?

You S.O.Bs are making me want to buy another electric guitar.

Also, that Zebrawood is lovely. Are there darker versions?

Raymond are you a hitman or something? Would love to have a similar budget for recreational items :p:(

Work 2 jobs, don't smoke, don't drink, drive a cheap car and will have some toy money :D

The best thing about them is if you buy wisely, they never lose money. I "made" £400 on the PRS I part-ex with for the Les Paul. I paid used or less than used prices on all of the electrics above, even though some were new but were on sale. So I know I can get the same if not more than my money back.

You lucky chap! :)

That LP is lovely, I want one damnit!!!

Thanks :) It rivals the look of the PRS I think. In some ways it is better.

About a year ago I actually were looking for one as Easyrider would remember but of all the ones I've tried, they were meh to average at best. Although I was looking at new Les Paul at the time but since then I've learn that used guitar is where the wise money should go so when it came round again to look for one I took my time, and foudn this. My list of want was quite specific and long.

1 - No Tobacco burst
2 - No Cherry burst
3 - No Gold top (I actually like Gold Top but just not for the first one)
4 - No red back
5 - Has binding
6 - No pickguard, I know I can take it off but I don't want a hole
7 - with pick up covers preferred
8 - All stock hardware, no mods
9 - In reasonable condition, some signs of used is fine but no serious damage and no neck break
10 - With all original papers and documents
11 - Used
12 - Never had a refret done, nor in need of one anytime soon
13 - Weighs in at 9lb or under preferred
14 - Made Between late 90's to 2012, no Norlin era.
15 - No quilt top
16 - Nice flamed top if I could find it
17 - Traditional Les Paul, so no coil tap and no reverse Peter Green phasing
18 - No chambered, weight relief or solid
19 - Under £2,000
20 - Within the radius of 100 miles of my house so I can try before I buy

I manage to satisfy 17 out of the 18 points as the guitar is 9 ounces over my 9lb limit I set myself, but not bad considering how picky I was being. The bonus is that the Guitar is a Custom shop mode, and it is made with a long tenon and all the hardware are used in the Historic series which retails like £3k and up. Extra bonus that it was a shop that had it so I was able to trade in a guitar to Part-Ex it, saves me selling it on the used market separately.

This photo shows off the flame even better, though it comes and goes depending on angle of light.
