giffgaff sim

The only draw back I can see with giffgaff is that you cannot tether, and suggestions of accepting a data cap to allow tethering have been rejected. Ideally I'd like to have a 1GB cap with tethering.

Shame, I really only need to occasionally tether so I'm probably going to go for their offer anyway as paying £10 a month is much better than being able to tether.

3 three seem to do a sim only rolling contract with unlimited data so i might give them a go, see if they're any better in my area.

I use this now on my iPhone (because o2 have rubbish speeds around here). I must say so far its really good get around 3-6MB internet speeds, college give out free wifi but i never use it because my 3g is faster.

I'm guessing you don't know about the gigabags which do allow tethering

Yes, I know about them and they are data only, so I'd have to pay-as-you-go for my minutes and texts. Really they are designed to be stuck in a tablet or dongle, not for putting in your phone for tethering, though it might work for me since I don't need many minutes or texts.

I got a sim card but I have 3 credit cards and it would not let me add credit with any of them. On their forums they said its a known problem and go top up in the post office. I binned the sim card and got the tesco 12 month sim deal

No cup but that'll change from around April and they're going to cut off the users who are taking the pee by tethering (which isn't allowed on the £10 googybag). Still remains the best deal for unlimited data though.

A FUP would probably be good for the unlimited internet, as you have these small numbers of idiotic greedy users who use so much data that they have put a strain on the network, so much so that giffgaff are considering taking it away.

But if they put in a FUP then it can't be classed as unlimited internet although they are blocking people who are using massive amounts of data in one hour (so if you use around 1GB of data in that time frame then expect a bar) since that would also be a breach of the abuse policy.

been using gg since I got my 4s a month after launch, their £10 goody bag is excellent for me, no problems :)

wasn't aware there is a tethered option though, off to do some research :)

Even so you wouldn't be able to tether (personal hotspot) on a iPhone 4S since apple doesn't recognise giffgaff as a official provider and thus you wouldn't be able to use the personal hotspot function.

I tether just fine with a £10 goodybag and a SE X10i to my tablet and netbook
used just over 600 MB so far this month
speed wise at home GG are slightly faster than my home connection @around 2500 k compared to home @3000k
out and about in this area i can get 6 meg but usually 2-3meg

You can, if they find out they'll bar your sim and cancel the contract.
Although using such a low amount I doubt they will notice.
But you may want to read T&Cs

You are right:( never noticed that tbh.not as good a deal as i originally thought, and was considering getting another for my nephews to use for youtube(they got no landline and BB is via three payg atm)

Its still an amazing deal.
If you want one just for YouTube, get a three 3G pre paid sim for like £12 3months 3GB.
Or I assume you can buy two goodie bags at same time and I assume data ones allow tethering.

Yes that is what they are using now.used to be around £8 last year:(
GG are too expensive for the data bags though(the three ones last 3 months for 3GB)

You can, but you can only use one at a time so the first will be active whilst the second will be queued to start after the first has expired.
