Gigabyte cancels P67 programme – moves 100% to Z68

my p67 UD7 has 25 phase VRM. What will this Z68 board really give me apart from on board graphics I don't want and quick sync or whatever it's called?

GIGABYTE's cutting edge 24 phase power VRM design utilizes the highest caliber components to provide unadulterated, smooth power to the CPU

^^^ From gigabyte website. It has 24 Phase, not 25.

lol why? what are you talking about?

well the sole selling point of P67 boards was the fact that you could clock K series chips in them, which is clearly now redundant, on the other hand H67 boards being redundant i disagree with, i think there's a nice niche market for them & Z68 just isn't a cost effective solution for that segment of the market.

Again this makes no sense. How is a P67 board now redundant? overclocking is the same surely and needs K series.

Do you mean that as the Z68 does everything a P67 board does they need not exist in the market together?

As long as you meant that and were not implying my P67 board was redundant! Only differences are QuickSync, onboard GPU and SSD caching. All utterly useless features to an enthusiast. That is unless you find an enthusiast who doesn't like high end GPU's and SSD's.

Unless Z68 offers something tangible then it seems pretty pointless. It's not like you are reaching the limits of the board. In someways Intel have shot themselfs in the foot because they use the multiplier for overclocking. On X58 at least the highend boards allowed you to pusk BLK more.

P67 B3 is a solid chipset and a pleaure to overclock. Its never been so easy to get silly performance from reasonably priced CPU's.

MSI have no immediate plans to follow Gigabyte's lead & I doubt that Asus will either. If I'm blunt I think that Gigabyte are doing this because Gigabyte have had very disappointing results with their Q1 P67 sales.

Z68 is supposed to be more expensive than P67

If they really do phaze out the p67 so soon I would feel sorry for people as they would have to pay extra for a z68 which may well offer no more than previous motherboards.

Not bothered at all. Quite happy with my MSI board.

I wonder why its that... their boards are the best of the big 3!

well when the P67's first launched MSI where really agressive in there pricing policy, giving a hefty discount on the boards to get customers buying, it could be that sales of GB boards just didn't bounce back from that?.

From what i read around the review sites its going to be same or less but only time will tell with the greedy eretailers.

The MSI Z68A-GD80 pics are already on the net.
