Gigabyte G34WQC - 1440p ultrawide

Hi All,
Do any of you have this issue: while using You tube Appearance : Dark, i.e. white text on black background changes the text colour from white to yellow when scrolling or moving windows? Is this normal for VA panels?

It seems only some units have flickering issue with g-sync and not all of them.
some youtube users are very happy with this monitor:

I asked Gigabyte support about the change from g-sync certification and the flickering issue and got a less than helpful response:

“Question: I recently purchased this monitor. When I ordered it, it was advertised as a g-sync compatible monitor, but I see that has now been removed from your website.

I am finding that the monitor flickers when g-sync is activated. Could you confirm if there will be a fix for this and whether the monitor will be certified as g-sync compatible?

I may have to return the monitor to the seller if this will be an ongoing issue as it is very noticeable in games 9/30/2020 8:44 AM

Answer:
Dear *****,

For G-Sync, we can only say that we tested it to run well but we cannot guarantee the result.

Meanwhile, the flicker situation you mentioned is normal. It is VA panel specification and it meets NVIDIA regulation.

Regards,
GIGABYTE”

I received the same reply for Gigabyte, i actually laughed out loud reading it. Returning my monitor and getting a refund...

What about the AOC monitor? It’s more expensive but does it show any of the issues the gigabyte/iiyama panels have? I really want an ultra wide but holding off because of this flickering issue.

Exactly the same issue. They all use the same panel. Every monitor that uses this panel suffers from flickering by the looks of it.

same issue + AOC has much worse brightness.
the online reason they are more expensive is because they were released before these and haven’t updated their prices.

flickering only happens with gsync/ freesync on,so I think if your GPU is powerful enough to handle 1440p 144hz on this ultra wide screen, you probably can do without gsync.

Bugger. Is there another ultra wide that’s doesn’t break the bank?

Not really I'm afraid. Not if you want 34 inch 1440p, with g-sync/freesync support.

The ones that don't seem to have issues are generally IPS screens, and twice the price unfortunately :(

Monitors have to be one of the worst and hardest parts to buy for a system, the quality you get for the prices is terrible!

IPS has it's own issues such as grey blacks, lower contrast and the awful IPS glow,IPS won't be necessarily better than VA.
also doesn't Iiyama have an IPS 34" ultra wide 144Hz 1440p (flat not curved) for £400 with similar issues?

I'm not sure the flat Iiyama has flickering issues, it seems to be more general quality control issues like you say, such as glow, dead/stuck pixels, screen not waking from sleep etc.

can you find that anywhere in the UK? Quick google search finds one on Amazon US but it’s out of stock.
It's a new model, been sold in European countries (Germany,Netherland.,etc) so should become available here soon.also it seems that famous online retailer in UK had them in stock recently.

I was looking at that screen before, and unless I'm getting mixed up there's a thread on here about them ... they had mad issues at the start and had to be recalled to have a firmware update applied, then I think I read that they still have slight issues since but I guess it sounds kinda on-par with this one.

It's a bugger because if/when I make a proper build I'd been so tempted by ultrawides, but anything pricer would be a no-go.

For the money I’m not actually that bothered about GSync, I hardly use it on my current monitor and I’m hoping my 3080 will keep the FPS at a solid 144fps anyway so it’s kinda pointless in my case.

new user video..this guy goes into details about when flickering occurs and shows some overclocking too.
