Hi everyone,

I just bought an i7 920 + the GA-EX58-UD5 from a member here.

I have a problem and wonder if anyone can help, everything on the board works fine however both the LAN ports seem to be dead, the lights don't come up and therefore obviously when I go into Windows it says that I have no LAN connections.

Anyone have any ideas? Feeling a bit stuck from here...

No, both are enabled and I've tried it by disabling one then the other and so on but still jut as if they're completely dead.

In fact, I'll take that back, I've just unplugged my LAN cable and both LEDs have went out.

Even plugging it into a disabled port the LED will come on with mine.

Gavin, have you got it sorted yet?
I only used the lan ports for my ADSL router, which was never an issue.
What does Device manager look like?
Just a thought, I had bios set to ACHI mode did that cause you issues?

Cheers Matt

Hi Matt,

Nope still not sorted yet.

Device Manager is blank, only shows the 1394 adapter under network adapters. (Using Win XP 64 Bit at the moment)

I had the bios set to IDE mode, but I did change it to ACHI to check if that worked, put apart from it not booting into Windows the LAN port still seem completey dead.

Really stuck. :(

I'm unsure why you're changing the disk controller modes to try to get the LAN ports working?

It really does sound as though they are disabled still.

Have you got the motherboard drivers disks, uninstall your network adaptor drivers then try reinstalling the drivers off the disk. I had problems with my lan ports after I updated the drivers through windows update had to use the original drivers.

Disk controller mode was a side issue.

I was running Windows 7 64bit and never had an issue with Lan port drivers. Might be an XP issue?

I am sure that they were enabled in BIOS as I used an ADSL router in one of the ports.

Would agree with Mariusz use the drivers disk.

I trust you have formatted and put a fresh installation of windows on?

Yea I formatted and put XP 64 Bit on.

The problem is even in XP there is no network device so drivers installed or not doesn't make any diference as the network adapter isn't there, just the 1394 adapter.

When I go into the BIOS and use the "Smart Lan" feature it comes up with virtual cable test, but nothing actually happens in there either, the ports just seem to be dead? :(

Try loading one of the saved profiles and adjust it to suit your hardware eg overclock and ram timings etc. As stated the lan ports were working with my hardware using Win 7 64 as my router was plugged into one of the ports??

I don't recollect using the smart lan function? Have you loaded Bios default values?

I have a copy of Vista 64 if you wish to try that??

Matt

Yep, I tried both of your profiles while changing them to suit my setup but still no life in the LAN ports.

I will try Winodws 7 later as a seperate OS later on tonight and see if that springs any life. :)

Cheers.

May I make a suggestion.

Reset your BIOS to default. Pull the CMOS battery and do a CMOS reset.

It is best to do the CMOS reset with your PSU cable removed.

Let the board stand without the battery for 30mins before you replace the bits and reboot.

Leave on default bios options.

Insert the LAN cable.

Boot into Windows.

Run the Gigabyte installation DVD that came with the box. You will need to do that I suspect. For now do not allow Auto Update from Windows Please.

Once all the drivers have been installed and you haver rebooted twice I think it is. Your LAN ports should be working just fine.

Right I just installed Windows 7, but it didn't work. :(

@1Day

I followed your instructions but to no avail, LAN ports still not showing any signs of life! :(

Thank you everyone so far for the help, still really puzzled by this. :(

Right your next step is to contact GIGABYTE UK and arrange a RMA the process will be rather painless I am sure.

It happens from time to time that a dysfunctional board gets through QC the funny thing is I have a RE3 board with no lan but since I never use it I have not bothered to get it sorted.

Have you tried the board out of your case as i have had shorts before now , try running it on the bench

Gavin, I am feeling awkward about this....The board was all good in my PC?

What other cards do you have installed on the board? Could it be a conflict?

Try the board out of the case as suggested.
