Gigabyte GTX 1080 Xtreme Gaming

Gigabyte's been dropping the ball heavily with their AMD gpus for the past 3 generations, now they started to do the same with the Nvidia ones. Amusing, to say the least, because there isn't a lack of other vendors.

Used to keep them in high regard and almost went for their extreme gaming kit. Glad I didn't. Will stay way clear in the future of anything they sell.

I'll say this to all the people sending back their Gigabyte cards..

Check the MSI 1080 Gaming X out, i actually wasn't intending on buying it but it came into stock when i was looking. I did intend to go for an EVGA.. But i'm so glad i went for the MSI, it's sooo quiet.

£100 less is the Super jetstream which is Cooler and quieter still

It's not quieter or cooler.. About the same sound level and slightly cooler on the MSI.

But for the price - the Palit are definitely the better buy at the moment. The MSI Gaming X is at what £700 now? Mental.

Sure I saw on the aib comparisons the gainward and palit were the coolest and quietest but probably not much in it.

Like you say though, there is a lot of money difference in it

It seems the past few gigabyte nvidia generations have had a lot of qc error's and coil whine has been pretty rampant in all of them (i myself have a 980 with coil whine).

Anyone got GeForce GTX 1080 Xtreme WaterForce? If someone have one can you share Temp/Noise and maybe some FPS in some games please.

Another question if you don't mind....do you have Coil While?

Thanks.

its total silent with stock fan profile mode. as it will only stay around 28% fan speed , at idle temp is around 29-31'C at full load is 44-55'C depend on how demand of that game .

at Turbo fan mode ( this is just one click select in Xtreme software ). the fan will ramp up 50% when temp exceed over 50'C but the temp won't go beyond 50-51'C but the you can hear fan spin but its still quite silent if you get used to reference cooling designed .

to be honest i had coil whine on first 2 days but somehow on the 3rd day it now just disappear (strangely it made the coil whine only when it was idle. when ran in game or do anything it didn't make any coil whine noise )

edit: my PSU is EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 P2

Bent fins on yours too? Can you bench without crashing on OC mode?

Yes fins are bent on the bottom right but nothing a few minutes with a jewellers screwdriver can't fix. Bigger plate not haning loose like on someone's yt unboxing.

You mean the 'dumb' (one button) OC mode in the app? That seems to work OK on a few minutes of Heaven 4. At what point does it crash for you? FWIW I just did a clean wipe of everything a few days ago including bios, so if it did crash there would only be a few possible culprits and crucially the Gigabyte app would be the only thing doing or running any OC (even my CPU is back to stock).

Whether I did the "dumb" one button OC mode or matched it manually It crashed my drivers after 5 minutes of the 3Dmark stress test.
If I attempted to run it anywhere near the 2000mhz mark (most FE cards do this easily) then my card would last 2 seconds.
This card is a big pile of.......you guess the word.

I ran 5 minutes of Firestrike and then Firestrike extreme, no crashes. 3DMark was reporting 45-ish FPS on extreme while Nvidia single digits (and it looked like a slide show so 1:0 to Nvidia). MSI afterburner showing nowhere near 2Ghz whereas Gigabyte app 2060Mhz.

If you give me your exact oc settings per the Gigabyte app, benchmark name/length and monitoring app, I'll post the results and we'll know better if it's your card specifically or the Xtreme in general.

I don't have the card now, it went back yesterday. The Gigabyte settings were just a click of the OC mode which was 1936mhz I think. I used the normal Firestrike Stress Test (not Ultra or Extreme) I cannot remember what it boosted to in Firestrike, I know it was nearer 2000mhz. I presume you would be seeing similar results.

If I manually set 1936mhz in MSI Afterburner, and run the same test it fared no better and crashed.
Bare in mind, I tried 100% fan and even worked up the voltage all the way to 100% but It still crashed. To get 1936mhz stable you shouldn't really have to touch anything apart from the clock boost.
After much tinkering I managed to get 1900mhz stable and no more. I wasn't paying top dollar for that.

Technically they are if only by a single degree and a single decibel but you get the point, sure.

The price difference suggests a bigger difference overall though dosnt it!

Exact problem I am having.

Oddly enough if I played one of my most commonly used games it would have no issues running it at 2025-2050MHz, but Firestrike in standard OC mode from the app was a no-go.

maybe its possible that OC mode is boost higher than 2050 as my Xtreme OC mode in Xtreme software boost it to 2080 . it show 1936MHz in software but in actual game its 2080 .

It still shouldn't crash with the kind of cooler that is on the Xtreme. That card is a tank.
I have now bought the Gainward GLH card and that hits 2100mhz and it is a fraction of the size of the Xtreme and no coil whine and super quiet.
Something is seriously wrong with the Xtreme cards if it can't use its own OC mode. I have tried 5 GTX's 1080's now and so far, the Xtreme is the worst.

Hey, thanks for all that :) i really appreciate it.

I just order mine from CaseKing.de since they are the only one in stock that can send it to my country. I really hope that it doesnt have coil while on mine and hopefully there wouldnt be any problem.

I'm still on a GTX 670 so go to GTX 1080 will be a big upgrade to me and maybe I will SLI it in the future.

First of all thanks the OCUK community for all the feedback. We are not leaving these as it is and we are actively working on improving our product and service.

I want to address the 2 issues on hand:

The first one being bent fins that has happened in some cards due to a flaw in our packaging. We were aware of this and delayed our launch in Europe to fix the cards and rework our packaging. We understand that even after that rework some cards still had issues, but this is limited to the first batch produced and anything coming after will certainly not encounter this problem. There were also a few isolated cases where the fan was touching the shroud, this was due to the same packing issue and the shroud being deformed, this will also not happen again.
If you have received a card which is damaged in this way, please contact Gigabyte local RMA centre ([email protected]) with your serial number, part code, date & place of purchase, and we will assist you directly.

The second one being the unstable clock on OC mode. We haven’t been able to replicate this and we are waiting to receive this card in our RMA center to test it.
Regardless of that, our R&D team considers this might be a software issue and could be solved by the 1.04 version of Xtreme Engine posted today 7/12/2016. http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5920#utility
There was also another issue with the software that prevented the memory from being clocked correctly in OC mode, this version also solves this issue as well.
If you still experience issues in any of the ways mentioned above please let us know.

Thanks.
Gigabyte Team
