If your mp3 player is non volatile solid state memory then it is nowhere near as fast as traditional volatile ram and its also got a limited life span with limited read/write cycles.
There is a lithium battery on the board which if removed from the motherboard or the psu is turned off at the wall or on the back of the PSU will supposidly keep data safe for upto 14 hours. Otherwise whilst powered it should be there until you delete it.
What i would like to do is store my OS/APPS on a hard-drive but load it into memory at boot time (or at will!) and have the ram updated from the hard-drive.
