****Gigabyte Z97X SOC Force****

The hw refresh are compatible with z87, though theese are non k chips with the same paste as current haswells. Later next month the improved Tim 4970k is released, this will work on z97 boards but as yet no one knows for sure if they will work on z87.

Thanks.
4970K is a confusing naming scheme isn't it? considering 4930K and 4960X are IB-E and 2011 socket!

Yep, posting from my phone so a few typos are inevitable with my eyesight.:D

Quite interested in this chip myself. Very curious as to what theyve done to improve the heat transfer.

The boards being more aimed at nebchers etc they probably not fussed about m.2.

Did you notice the rear of the SOC boards? SMT mounted DIMM slots, the only Z97 boards to have this.

I agree an M.2 slot would probably not be of much interest to benchmarkers/OC'ers but it would have been nice to have the option of the M.2 slot.

I would have preferred it over the single SATA Express port as there are M.2 SSD's avaliable and simple to have the option of the upgrade.

The SMT mounted DIMM slots look good and will provided more predictable high-frequency performance and better EMC compatability due to smaller radiation loop and lead inductance.

Though was SMT added for OC'ers or because the process is cheaper than the standard mounting method?
