Giganews slow today

Anyone else finding this?
Just did a speed test on speedtest.net which showed 10mb
Trying to download from Giganews & it's going at 500Kbs with 10 connections. I usually get full speed. I've checked all my newsleecher setup & it's normal. Weird

Not using giganews but i'm using powerusenet

Speeds 50% lower than normal using ssl port 563

Yet on speedtests of various kinds i get my usual 10-12meg speeds weird !!!

Using adsl not cable if that makes any difference

Don't giganews have a speed tester on their site?

It might be an indication that your ISP has started throttling your NNTP usage.

I have never got any less than full speed with GN.

Doubt they throttle

Seems lots of people with BE are having the problems but they cant see any probs on their network.
Thats according to BE forums.

Trace route your news server, you may find it's taking an unusual route, or a router taking a long time to respond.

I'm not on them anymore. I moved house in July and got a shiny o2/Be 22.5mbit connection for £7.50/month (thanks z0mbi3/Si)

I'm with o2 too and am getting full speed.

No plans i've heard of /re capping/throttling on o2 or Be and I'd be surprised if it got rolled in overnight like that.

How so? I was getting full speed with giganews at the same time, on the same ISP.

If anything, it's more likely to be an ISP problem at the exchange/local backhaul level.

so explain how I was getting slow speeds in Durham on Be* and a friend in Liverpool was having exactly the same problem on SKY, I've heard USENET changed some of the details for hi-speed accounts.

So explain how I was getting normal speeds on Be? Constant 2.2+ MB/second.

Usenet is just the name of the newsgroup system in general. Your accounts are controlled by whoever you purchased them from (e.g. Giganews). Plenty of people download constantly on these connections and don't ever get limited (by their newsgroup provider).

It's quite possible that it's not an ISP issue, but clearly there's more to it than you seem to think.
