GIS

I just finished 'advanced GIS' in uni. I pretty much know how to use ArcGIS when provided with the datasets that I would need, however I'll probably never use it again. I found it to be a very interesting and useful resource. If you are trying to learn it you'll need to find case study exercises with the datasets given, as it is really complicated and time consuming to make your own data, not to mention expensive.

Have worked with/alongside GIS teams in my last and current job.

Last place used old Intergraph Framme software, and the GIS chap at my current place used to work for Intergraph.

ok - in what line of work are you then mate? im just asking as ive graduated as a building surveyor but cant find a job. A lot that are suitable want GIS experience! and im not totally sure what the heck they are talking about

i work for a company called Faithful+Gould as an Assistant CDM-Coordinator. We review drawings for potential HS implications etc, aswell as using them to make suggestions for different working methods

I work in Group IS..... ;)

Not the company you are on about i guess just the IT Deparment of a big company.

Soon our people will have to ring up shoddy non-english speaking clueless about IT Indian people :) i feel sorry for them :D .... but then i remember that the company is keeping them on and sacking us :(

lol :) Group IS run our IT system and i have only ever been in contact with their support team, i wasn't aware they did more than this :) come to think of it though i dont know how they could turn a profit from what they do their so they must be doing something else good to keep them afloat ;) (jokes by the way im sure they are as good as any other IT support company)

does that mean you are busy recovering leeds data? I hear its going well !!

Did a bit of work on one when I was on an Rural Payments Agency project - mostly learnt as we went along.

I work with ESRI stuff on a daily on a basis. It's a frustrating experience at times, anything post v9 seems to be very buggy to me, particularly the desktop software. The only thing that seems to run reliably is ArcSDE 9.2 using Oracle 10g on a Solaris box.

I'm looking at ArcGIS Server at the moment to replace our ArcIMS map services.

Did geography with GIS at uni and yes GIS was hella boring! ZzzzZzzZZZzzzzz The guys who changed from geography to full time GIS were the most stereotypical egotiscal angry ugly smelly nerds I have ever seen!!!

Constantly giving me all the lamest grief like "hahaha you have to do exams and we don't" "we will get paid 3x more than you at ordance survey" "those that can't teach".

Well last I know actually got the job I wanted and they did not, think they still doing retail :)
