So why didn't you purchase a reputable and known mid range tyre?

What size are your tyres - £75 sounds sufficient to purchase a well performing premium tyre for most cars.

It's one of Conitinentals budget brands same as Barum. £75 is a little much for it and would have bought something better like a Uniroyal Rainsport 2 which is from one of Contis mid brands.
 
It seems that Gislaved have garnered not just good reviews, but VERY good reviews for their tyres.
Most noticeably for their cold weather and snow tyres.
A quick google search reveals this.
So whats the problem here?

Obviously the chart scaling has been modified to exaggerate the differences, but the Linglong still takes an extra 8 meters or a 25% increase over the Continental. Frankly that is dire.
 
25% at a low speed too

and then the next table i showed was how the contis compared to other tyres stopping in the wet, so you can do a lot better still etc.
 
The point is that comparing continental to linglong tyres does not answer the question of how good are "Gislaved" tyres from an objective view, but that question appears to have got rather lost in this thread.

my view is, theyre an unknown brand, not one that i have experience of, and typically no brand tyres are utterly gash. safety is important enough to me that i wouldnt "chance" something like that for the sake of saving a few quid

what size are your tyres?

He doesn't want to say for obvious reasons. He got mugged for a no name tyre.

You shouldn't mix winter tyres and all year tyres on the same axle. I know that much. As these are for cold climates will they not deteriorate and wear much faster in the summer?

If you care to do a bit of research (and I mean just a bit) before posting you will see that the Speed 606 tyre mentioned is actually designed as a summer/all weather tyre; not a winter tyre. The comment I think a fellow poster made was that Gislaved appear to get very good reviews for their winter tyres, so one could assume that they might know a thing or two about tyres and therefore there other tyres might be reasonable.

I can't be bothered to get into an argument of pricing up alternative tyres, etc. as I have no doubt that for £25 or so more I could probably have got a better known brand fitted (particularly if going through a mobile place that comes to you), but that was never the question I asked or in fact am at all interested in.

All I was interested was in if anyone had an objective opinion of Gislaved tyres, and I think only one poster has pointed towards any actual reviews.

Frankly I have no more time to waste on this matter as it would appear there isn't really an answer and only experience will tell.

If it helps you sleep at night and boosts your ego, then yes, I got mugged, poor me...

What tyre size? If you've still got the ST24 then Camskill have Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's for £78, VREDESTEIN Sportracs for £65 or even Falken FK452's for just £55.

Add a tenner for fitting and its quite clear that no matter how average Gislaved may or may not be, you got done over, simple as that.

FK452's for £55 are such a good price the smart and safe thing to do would be to stick a pair on the axle you were having the tyre changed on.

But who needs safety when you can do things on the cheap without any research and then have a toys and pram moment when everyone points out what you did ;)
