Glad I'm not a northerner

oh my god! what will they think of next. electrified seats that kill us if we go 0.1 mph above the linit at any one time.
Speed does not kill, its normally a mixture of stupidity and bad luck with varying percentages or each(0-100).

It's the idiots who actually DO go at 70 in the outside lane when the inside lanes are clear(er) who cause half the problems, making people undertake, tailgate and get annoyed.

As long as it doesn't spread any further north.

I wonder if the cars will be nicely branded so that everybody knows who they are when they're going down the motorway???

OMFG!! Is all I can realistically say to this, seriously, where do they get the people who think up these schemes?

Like Confused TA says it;s the people who do 70 who are the problem.

I don't even drive and yet I know this is simply idiotic

If they are obeying the highway code and moving over once they have ovetaken a lorry/whoever how are they causing a problem?

I usually travel over 70 but there have been times when I have used the outside lane travelling at 70 and I don't have a problem with others who choose to do this as long as they move over once they complete their manouver.

Back on topic, if they plan to block the outside lane won't other people just stick the the inside or middle lanes?

can't stop thinking about this one :)

what'll happen if theres a spate of dangerous undertaking to get past these cars? Are they going to introduce a 70mph rolling road block??

If they are purposely obstructing the flow of traffic (ie. not overtaking), won't they just be pulled over by the first passing patrol car?

If it isn't a joke, of which I'm dubious, it has to be the most ill-conceived idea ever. Having 3 lanes travelling at the same speed and the inner lanes undertaking is far more dangerous than people overtaking in the outside lane at 90+. Haven't they ever driven on a congested motorway!?

These drivers are going to need nerves of steel I can only imagine how many ppl are going to be flashing and beeping at them.

No doubt these cars will be fitted with cameras and will issue auto fines for undertakes and speeding.....

Not if they're not speeding.

Can't you be pulled for highway code contraventions? I haven't looked at it recently but I'm sure there are rules about intentionally blocking people from overtaking.

camera! they wont be happy until they have a laser to halt any "dangerous drivers" wanting to get past them!

Oh sorry I forgot that wouldent make them any money would it. I tell you what, not matter what government it was, if they promised to abolish speed camera's and got more patrol cars on the road, I'm willing to bet they would get a nice spike in votes!

Didn't the Conservatives do that last time? They still lost! :p

the outside lane of a motorway is for overtaking only and as such once past the slower moving traffic they should pull back into the other lanes.

Um, question - are these "pace drivers" people going out and doing this on a normal journey (e.g. the morning commute) or are they going out for the sole purpose of this? Because I'm sure the environment lobby might have something to say about this if it's the latter - someone would be going out in a car, using petrol, creating pollution, all just to get in the way of other motorists.
