Finally got round to watching this. It was good, not excellent. The original is a 9.5/10 for me and the sequel is probably closer to a 6.5/10. I might watch it again, once, but it's not a classic like the original. Not that fussed that I didn't see it on the big screen in the end.
Denzel steals the show, as only Denzel can. Didn't know he was gonna end up being the bad guy (thought he would literally just be the Oliver Reed mentor character), but he did his backstabbing and conniving very well. I liked they added a slightly remixed "Now we are free", pretty much in the same scenes as they did in the original, but overall the soundtrack was not as epic as the 1st.
Paul Mescal was OK, nothing special, 1st thing I've seen him in. Pedro Pascal, not really in it much tbh. Ginger emperors and Matt Lucas, really bad (camp) acting by all 3. Most of the fight scenes seemed too short to me and off course the sharks and monkeys were unnecessary. Also the film felt very colourful compared to the 1st one, which seemed weird.
