Hi all,

Just a quick question, after years of using PC's im getting some major headaches come the end of the day, today for instance i have had 6 ibuprofen and im still struggling with a headache... whilst using the works pc..

I take it i need glasses... for the pc and reading etc,

how many of you guys have developed bad eyesight from using computers?

neal

I don't wear gases, I make them.

But no, I have no problem with my eyes, I've always had awesome eyesight and using a computer more and more hasn't affected that.

EDIT: Boo for thread title changes :(

Don't get headaches, but my eyesight has definitely deteriorated over the years, most likely due to prolonged computer use.

Only get headaches if i've been staring at the screen excessivly.

i.e. All day with very few breaks.

But my eyesight is still very good, I would say its deteriorated a little, but no where near the level of requiring glasses.

You mean glasses, and a few friends at work get headaches as well as RSI from using a pc. If the monitor is too old or set on too low a screen refresh rate it will make it worse, I take it the monitors are not from the Ark. :D One of my mates still uses a **** 14" monitor but I think they should be outlawed on health and safety grounds.

Part of it may be you tend not too blink so often when staring at a screen for hours, this isn't good for your eyes. As for the you must take a 10 min break every hour I'm sure this happens at every company.

I have a slight error of correction.. Not sure if the opticians was talking about me or my eyes.

I have to wear them whilst doing computfdf fer work but I lihtink imyyy eyeyeee ldoi sight isss ooii kok sjnhfcjoiofv :)

I should do, but a few months ago they broke and not bothered since. Haven't suffered from headaches since switching to TFT - maybe it's lack of a flicker!

I have to wear glasses, anything over 10 feet or so is a blur. I'm convinced its due to using computers and having my focus fixed at a certain point for a long period of time, although 'experts' will say using a PC for long periods of time has no effect on vision :/

Only needed them once I became employed and had to use a PC all day, before that my vision was always perfect. Of course it could be natural, but I have my doubts.

I wear them at work and at home, dont need them for reading, just distance. tryed contacts, my eyes water like mad within secs and flush them out, so im stuck with glasses as laser surgery makes me squirm just thinking about it. If i was out when they did it, maybe, but awake...no way!

I dont mind them at all, and oddly, i got mine as i was getting headaches, was due to my eyes working to hard to focus, glasses helped a lot.

Dont think the stigma is there for wearing glasses as an adult, no one says anything to me about it.

I was told that, but apparently if your eyes are weak, using a PC *will* make your vision worse, but it's not really the cause it just kinda onsets the short-sightedness. or something like that :)

That makes sense, as you'll be straining very slightly to focus properly.

I can't say I've noticed any permanent deterioration, but after prolonged use (every day pretty much :p) it feels funny focusing on 3D objects and viewing the screen can become more difficult.

No, but I am meant to really!
Had quite a few pairs but never worn them, just don't like them. Should get contacts really but touching my eye just seems icky :p

Not so much as blind, just makes everything sharper slightly, especially helpful for driving at night!

thankfully not at the moment, i hate wearing friends glasses for a few mins let alone for a long time, but have an annoyingly flickery screen at work which im sure doesnt help 1 bit.

I wear glasses all the time. I can't even really see the computer a screen two feet away without them.

I personally think it's as Nismo said, prolonged computer use has made my eyes focus closer than they should, but again as he said, experts deny this.
