There are fewer customers at the leading edge. The capacity needed at the leading edge is going down...

So is this why TSMC is going to be utterly swamped with AMD, Apple and Nvidia (to pick the immediate 3) for the foreseeable future then? Yeah...

Sounds like GloFo is targetting mobile markets and small device markets... Kinda smart. Its a huge market to address.

I doubt such a purchase would be approved because it would be obviously for anti-competitive reasons. With GF stopping their 7nm, AMD's entire product stack would be halted if TSMC were unable to produce AMD's things, or at least charged a stupid premium for it. And it would also stiff Nvidia too given their 7nm aspirations.

Intel are in the CPU business, buying TSMC would cripple their main CPU rival.
Intel are looking to enter the GPU business, buying TSMC would cripple their main GPU rival.

They'd get murdered in court.
