Gmail - Requires TXT or Phone Call verification

It's asked me about 4 times to do this now. There must be a skip option as I've not filled it in yet.

I don't really want them to have my phone number.

No way that Google might want to 'harvest' all those 'phone numbers and eventually start tracking users . . .

No, they definitely wouldn't do such a thing . . .

Google have never trampled all over anyone's privacy concerns . . .

Oh hang on a tick , there's my mobile . . .

FANTASTIC news, Bog-rolls-R-us have got a sale on today, I simply must rush down there, right now ;)

Thanks for the info . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. .

. . . . . . .

I'm not doubting you but I can't see where it says it is mandatory and I've been able to skip it for ages...

We may be at cross purposes here. There is telephone verification, and telephone account backup which are two separate things.

I can't see a way to skip the telephone verification.

Lolstockhausen does come out with some nonsense but he's right. I wouldn't give Google my phone number, ever. Even if my mobile phone is a work phone.

We can't be because I've been using Gmail for years and have never entered my phone number into it =\ Not sure what to tell ya :p
