God of War 3 to be the most graphically advanced game on the PS3

Given what they did with God of War 1 & 2 on the PS2, I can certainly belive that they are capable of such things on the PS3 - the first 2 games are graphically superb for such an old console

It's impossible for the PS3 to render graphics that can even compare to those seen in Beowulf. It's not and if or maybe, it's just not possible. You would need 100 PS3s to have the power needed to render something of that quality in real time. Yes, it will look very good and it might even be the best looking PS3 game. No one is really disputing that. But it won't look like Beowulf! And it does throw the rest of the statement into doubt though because they are clearly making stuff up as they go along!
 
GOD OF WAR 2 still looks great to this day.

Not like this post then ;). Don't claim something is impossible unless you publish a peer reviewed paper on the subject assessing the capabilities of the cell and what can and can't be possible. Everything is pure speculation anyway till proven otherwise but it's nice to get excited over possibilities.

What he said. Everyone on here is quick to denounce any positive PS3 news and its getting tiresome. Why cant we get excited over what it might look like? If it doesnt look like beowulf then fair enough, but a little faith wouldnt go amiss

Are you both insane? :p The PS3 might be reasonably powerful, no one is disputing that, but I don't need to have published a paper on it to work out that it does not have the power to complete with an entire rendering farm. There is no speculation here. It's not possible!

You do know it takes HOURS for an entire CLUSTER of dedicated computers, which are much more powerful than a PS3, to render a SINGLE FRAME of a title like Beowulf, right?

I'd agree, it's a stunning looking game. One of the best on any console to date. Pretty fun to play too! It does have issues though, like the odd bit of jerkiness. Hopefully GoW3 won't suffer from things like that but still look as good if not better!

How is it denouncing the PS3? It's not a criticism, it's a very obvious fact that it wont be on par with Beowulf.

A better question would be if it could be done on next gen consoles, but even then I doubt it.

Sony showed plenty of things at E3 this year, some behind closed doors ready for Leipzig, but i digress.
I expect it to look close to the CGI trailer, but not like beowulf (wont be in 3d for one lol) its just an over excited journo trying to give a quote on what he has seen i guess.
 
So as soon as another event is over where Sony didn't quite deliver, we have new promises of another quantum leap. They ended the event with CGI and now this; I'm just not interested any more.

To be honest, if god of war 2 was 720p it would have put quite a few of the PS3s and 360s launch titles to shame graphically. God of war 3 will look stunning, there is no doubt about that, however i very much doubt it will look even remotely as realistic as the ray-traced, super computer destroying CG that beowulf produced.
