Godawful screeching noise on X-Fi Fatal1ty

Very true, I'z just saying, sometimes getting rid of that annoying little analogue "fizz" can become an expensive hobby :p

If you're not a massive gamer then try some of the m-audio (midiman) cards. They're reasonably priced, analogue cards as the capacitors they use are of an exceptional quality, which is very important for analogue out (for headphones etc).

The only problem you may get is "compatability" as even though they're doing a fine job as a company and making x64 Vista and x64 Win7 drivers, they're very simple cut-down drivers just for people that still appreciate the fact they were born with 2 ears; which are ideal, for headphones :P

+ is dat sum Boxcutter john signature :D
Boxcutter is great, especially when I'm not in the mood for Venetian Snares! :D

The Xonar cards seem to be a step in the right direction, the m-audio cards are nice also... I use an E-mu 1212m on one of my machines, and while it works great in XP, I have yet to try out W7 so I guess I have that to look forward to. It goes sound great with headphones tho, I find having a quiet computer makes one of the biggest differences if you're using it for audio. :)

Good old snares, I'll be goin on a Twin trip at this rate :p

Yeah well I can vouch for the Midiman cards Ive had a private beta for my old Audiophile 2496 card and they work just as well as can be hoped, they're happy with Win7 and OpelAL programs, but never really did get on with DirectXSound, which is a bummer.

whoops, missed this part!!

The only downside with creative is the drivers - takes them a long time to get decent updates out - and weirdly they never release drivers much at all during the useful life of teh card and then when its on its way out they suddenly release an update that fixes all the annoying little problems... way too late...

The sound quality has always been very good for non audiophile level and they work well for gaming - specially positional audio.

Yeah uriel I think your right, happened last night when listening to music.. almost half the audible sound turned into background noise/hiss.

Disconnected the firewire power connector from the external audigy box, right away the sound corrected itself. Plugged it back in, with only one green light coming on the box and volume control not working - as expected - and the hiss didn't return either.

So its the ext. audigy box in my case, going to pop it open tonight see if anything is amiss.

Check and double check the ground connections... I've had a few amps in the past which give off all sorts of noise when there is a bad ground connections.

I really don't see how bad drivers can cause noise unless they're really really bad or buggy...
