Going for a second run of ME2, which class to play?

I played through ME and ME2 as a vanguard, what I would like to think is the "jedi" class. A great mix of biotics(force powers) and guns(lightsabers).

I've dabbled a bit with other classes but never for very long, so I'm wondering if there is anyone that can shed some light on a class that I might not have liked initially but comes into it's own later on?

Just talking about your favoured class and why is all I'm after.

I had a quick bash at the infiltrator, on paper it sounds like the best after vanguard. I'm just wondering how the stealth aspect works later down the line, or is that not the reason to be playing one? I'm rogue daft, but I presumed a lot about it and didn't put in the effort.

I played thru ME1 as a vanguard then ME2 as an Adept! Adept is awesome with max shockwave and shotgun as special weapon! Smash 4-5 in the air and boom! Gonna run thru all the DLC now then play thru again with my adept on higher difficulty to get the achievements, then gonna play as a female infiltrator I think!

Amazing game tho! As an adept Grunt and Legion are awesome together when u get the Geth sniper rifle!

I always enjoyed the engineer, I wasn't a huge fan of the whole biotics thing (apart from the very few AWESOME fight scenes they added in ME2)

This sounds ideal and ignoring how fantastic Charge is, I would have liked to play through ME2 this way, but as it stands, it's probably a bit too close to a vanguard.

Veering off topic a bit, but does the ME2 dlc happen within the core game? I'm wondering because I just got through a second run of DA and most of the DLC was a seperate "campaign".

yea u can DL the DLC and just do the missions whenever u want! when u install them all your journal will be auto updated for you! and u continue it on just like u would normally!

playing through the shadow broker at the moment and its amazing!

I think I played as a sentinel, loved Tech armor, but might be too similar to the Vanguard class u tried tho

Adept is fantastic, and has great synergy with its powers - you can play it many ways (not limited to warp bombing or spamming your main talent). Of course, its not game-breakingly god-like as it was in ME1, but I find it more fun to play.
See this thread for examples.
If you've got the firepower weapon pack, the gps (my favourite) or mattock make stripping defences a breeze, leaving enemies at your biotic mercy.

EDIT: Oh and please if your playing on insanity, skip shockwave - it is useless. Believe me, I have tried to make it work, even after the general concesus of it being useless, but to no great effect. Veteran or below, yes it is amazing.

If you want a good test of battlefield manipulation you could have a shot at the engineer, preferably with shotgun. See this thread for videos.

Infiltrator is great, but don't bore yourself with repetitive cloak sniping - try a different approach, such as this. But the infiltrator has great flexibility, so you can load up with improved ai hacking and domintate, and let the enemies do all the hard work for you.

Well, I finished my second major playthrough today so I've now got two characters ready for Mass Effect 3 with a host of different decisions made across the first two games.

My first character was an Infiltrator in ME2 and my second was a Vanguard - both were fun to play although I'm pretty sure that my Vanguard with Reave as a bonus power and maxed out Shockwave was far more destructive.

EDIT: Only played on Normal - I've heard Shockwave is **** poor on Insanity as alluded to by the poster above and to be fair, it was only particularly useful against groups of husks. Reave was used 90% of the time.

Hello! *possible story spoilers below*

I'm currently on a second play through of Mass Effect 2 (Insanity) using my triple play through Mass Effect 1 character (Infiltrator, Normal+Hardcore+Insanity)

The only thing letting me down is team-mate AI, people just keep standing on top of cover and getting ripped apart!

Infiltrator is a very diverse class, the slow-down upon sniping is just amazing and increases your battlefield on control beyond flanking and incapacitation.

Notes on Insanity:

Until you get the useful loyal skills & shield/health upgrades this is an incredibly hard game, controlling flankers, prioritising threat & focusing attacks becomes critical to survival and not getting annoyed!

Getting off Omega was a turning point for me, was a real dull experience due to dying repeatedly till then.

There's several annoying fights on Insanity, the first being rescuing Archangel when you have the choice to lose a team member for the protection effort, I really wanted Garrus on my ship so I chose to leave Miranda behind - not sure if this was a mistake or not! Fortunately I had Mordin with me with 4/4 in Incinerate so taking down armour & prevent regen of the Vorcha & Korgan was a little easier. Having to push forward as well as kill enemies due to infinite respawns proved a nice challenge, using a combination of tactical cloak and luck I did this after 10-20 restarts.

Geth Colossus took 3-5 attempts, same as the arch angel mission, with infinite respawn the use of heavy weapon was needed here, if not a requirement! Getting the armour down in between shield regen is what you're focus needs to be here, on my successful attempt the shields didn't even have a chance to regen. AI Hacking was a must here, controlling a Geth Destroyer (Flame Thrower) to take the aggro of all the spawning geth seemed crucial to getting the Colossus down quickly.

Praetorian being the last, key here is to take down the additional targets as soon as possible so not allowing the Harbinger to spawn.

Having squad weapon ammo and knowing what ammo you need for the mission ahead makes the game so much easier, Inferno Ammo from Grunt & Sniper Rifle + Disruptor Ammo (lvl2) from me was adequate for most of the game. Concussion Shot + Reave + Warp taking care of barriers.

Reave is a great bonus skill applicable to both barriers and armour, as well as forcing a target out of cover is awesome.

All in all a very, very good game, I played Mass Effect 1 more but really enjoying Mass Effect 2 on Insanity. If it wasn't for missing out on good weapons due to pre-ordering from the wrong retailer is would certain be my game of the decade if not of all time. Full on dick-move by EA, they haven't even sold them as DLC!

Yeah, the ME2 content is more integrated.

I've not got an of the ME2 DLC, there's another pack coming, so I'm waiting for the "Ultimate Edition" that will not doubt follow bofore ME3 is out, and I'll pick it all up in one go for my last "reminder" playthrough of ME1&2 the release...

Speaking of preorder items, with DA you could download them all and use them regardless of where you got the game. They don't need the server side authentication the other dlc needs. The Wicked Oath ring that steam preorders got was a great bit of kit for my second play of DA, the full cunning dagger rogue route. Absolutely bananas if built right.

Thanks for all the input, everyone. Adept and infiltrator look like the way to move forward.

Insanity is terribly balanced. There are some epic fights like the Geth Colossus that are hard but doable with strategy but the 1 fight that eventually ****ed me off that much that i gave up on the game (still not sure if i ever finished it) is the 'trap' on the Collector Ship which basically pits you against a Scion way out of range that can instagib anyone not in cover or hiding from the wrong side and the ****ing collector harbinger who can just waltz up to your team (always after possessing something that you just took down to critical hp) and push them out from cover and theres **** all you can do about it.

You can't play as anything but tech/biotic classes for Insanity imo. Great fun on the other difficulties too, though Soldier is also awesome (just unplayable on Insanity imo since everything has shields/armour and mega damage and most your skills are unusable) because you can just concussion shot everything. I had fun doing this on my first playthrough with Wrex and Garrus? so we had 3 Concussion Shots to blast enemies out from hiding or to Lift and rocket them out of the map.).

Yeah that fight took me a few attempts as well, I ended up doing it by putting myself at the back where you start and Mordin + Grunt and the wall in front that joins the platforms.

Burnt down the first collectors as fast as possible and then did the Scion on the right using Sniper & Incinerate.

Don't use concussive shot so much. Adrenaline rush is considered to be the most overpowered power in the game (with tech armour and charge close behind), and soldiers can just breeze through insanity, especially if using mattock, revenant, or widow.
The downside is it is exceptionally boring (to me at least).
