Going for a second run of ME2, which class to play?

Sentinel, great class in ME2.

I went Vanguard on my first play through, as that was my fave class in ME1, however they changed it far to much for my liking in ME2 and I hardly used any of the powers, and the charge ability I found to be just useless.

Second play through I used Sentinel and it was much more useful (Tech Armour et al, plus it looks cool!).

yeh vanguard was my fave class in the first game too, but in ME2 I had a look at the classes and changed to Sentinel on my first playthrough

Don't use concussive shot so much. Adrenaline rush is considered to be the most overpowered power in the game (with tech armour and charge close behind), and soldiers can just breeze through insanity, especially if using mattock, revenant, or widow.
The downside is it is exceptionally boring (to me at least).

I find that hard to believe... half the soldiers skills are useless given that all enemies, even the crappy ones, have Shield/Armour which renders them unusable. Adren Rush is awesome but only if you max it out to slow down time even more, before then i was still getting annihilated even by small amounts of enemies in the short time i was out without managing to do a great deal of damage. Of course assuming you start a game on Insanity... but then wheres the challenge in New Game+ 'ing it :p I tried Soldier and got my ass handed to me that badly at the start i just restarted as Adept. Maybe i'll have to give it another go and persevere... though i would also have to get used to the game again first ><

And seriously how unbalanced are the giant mechs on Insanity? Most of the fights with them theres enough cover or a place far enough back they can't get to so you can give them the run around for 10 minutes but that random encounter with about 4 of them is just ridiculous! You can't take them out fast enough and they just walk casually around your very limited cover and turn you into swiss cheese.

^Have a look at some of the soldier guides linked in this thread.
In general, soldier and sentinel are considered the easiest classes to play on insanity due to tech armour and AR.
Vanguard is close behind (and a lot more fun), with repetitive use of heavy charge.

I've started up with an infiltrator. I'll give it a more open approach this time, I'm still a bit tempted by adept though. But I'll try and stay away from that, it'll end up feeling like a vanguard without charge.

I just got the kasumi and shadow broker dlc, I'm sure I'll regret it when the GOTY edition lands.
