Hello all,

I'm thinking of making the switch and going from the 360 to a PS3, trading in the 360 or selling it privately. How much do you think I'd get for a 360 selling it or trading it in?

The reason why I'm thinking of making the switch is because all my mates have gone for the PS3 and it also has the blu-ray player which will come in handy when watching films.

Without wishing to open a can of worms, is the PS3 the better console? Is the online side of things as good as the 360? Can you chat online? Add friends etc?

I've had my 360 for a good few years and has served me well but now I think it's time to trade in the old boy for something else (better?).

What have you done?! You bad bad bad person, there'll be worms everywhere in minutes!

You can chat online, but not across games. The online side of things isn't as good as the 360 imo. You can add friends to your psn account.

I wonder where this thread is going to go eh!

I have both and games wise this year I would prob say its been 95% to 5% usage in the favour of the 360. But there again all duel platform games I get for the 360 becuase I prefer the pad. And there wasnt many stadout PS3 only games out this year.

I do use my PS3 a hell of a lot though, but for DVD playback and BluRay. for which is pretty damn good.

I dont think you will get much on a trade in, I would keep it, save a little longer and save for the PS3 as well. you get the best of both worlds then.

If all/most of your friends are using PS3's then you may as well go for it.

I have no used a PS3, so can testify as to whether it's better. Though honestly, I don't think there is such a thing as a "better" console.

You should simply use whichever one is going to provide you with the most fun. If it's the PS3 due to friends, then go for it.

I would think you would be better off selling privately, rather than trading in. Though trading in less hassle as no postage required. I could be wrong though as not oo clued up on trade-in prices.

is the PS3 the better console?

Well if all your friends have one then I'd say yes. I got a 360 due to what my friends use - I also really dislike the ps3 (ps1) controller. Having said that If they all had ps3's that's the path I'd choose.

I had them both as well but i'm really a PC gamer and frustration at not being able to aim in any game made me sell my 360.

I kept the PS3 but only turn it on for the odd BLu ray and my kids movies as it upscales quite well.

Just bought condemned 2 though for 15 quid so might play it some more after christmas. :D

You'll get more money by selling privately, but probably not much more?

Either console is great but obviously the best console will always be the one your friends have.

In comparison to the 360 the PS3 online atm is adequate but not as good. You can add friends, and chat but it has limitations like not being able to talk across games or chat before going into a game.

Better is always going to be subjective, but imo the best feature of the PS3 is Blu-ray so if you have any intentions of using that feature then I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

Can you invite friends on your friends list in to a game?

E.g. invite them for a bit of FIFA / PES.

The invites are done ingame, but you can message outside the game. So for instance if you want to play Fifa against a friend you could message them then when your both in the game invite them for a match.

Some games work slightly different although most are pretty simple to use, not sure on PES as I don't have it.

It depends on the game, and I've not played either of those two but I imagine they would support it. The majority of games have an invite system now, where you send an invite out from ingame - your friend then receives this as a message in their inbox (this can be accessed ingame, so even if they're playing another game as long as they have pop-up messages enabled they will see your invite). If they want to accept it they'll have to start up the game then accept it once the game has loaded.

In terms of the online in general the 'core' of being able to play online easily enough is perfectly fine on the PS3, the extra frills like cross game voice chat and party support for all games are the only things that are really missing. Most of the 'big' games have dedicated servers provided free of charge which helps keep lag to a minimum in games over 32 players etc.

If you can only have one console and being able to play with your friends online is important to you then it seems like a pretty easy decision.

In terms of hardware i would say yes the PS3 is better, things such as bluray and built in wireless not to mention the build quality are ahead of that the 360 offers. This is reflected strongly in the price however, a PS3 costing nearly double that of a 360 pro/premium.

In terms of games, if you have a decent PC i would say the PS3 may be the better choice, the reason being that many of the big 360 exclusives are released on the PC eventually. I am yet to see a PS3 exclusive come out on the PC, this is mainly due to the fact that lots of their exclusives are developed by companies belonging to Sony. While there were rather dire issues with poor ports in the early life of the PS3, this issue has largely faded away, and while some titles do have these issues they're so insignificant it's only worth worrying about if you have both consoles so have a choice over which system you buy for.

In terms of online, the 360 is superior, end of. You may have to pay for a gold sub but you get what you pay for. The PSN is improving slowly, but it's still got a long way to go to equal what is offered by its Microsoft counterpart. Also, i feel that Home at present is a step in the wrong direction when it comes to dedication of resources, large amounts of money and programmers are being poured into Home to provide something that really doesn't appeal to me at present. There are glimmers of hope on the horizon such as game arranging etc, but it's so early in thier lifecycle that they don't have a significant impact on the experience. The PSN is functional, you can play games online without issue and invite friends, but its integration into the operating system isn't as well executed as on the 360.

If online gaming is your major concern, stick with the 360. If you have a good PC and want access to the largest possible collection of games overall and will take advantage of the bluray player then go for the PS3.

Do it, youre just clutching at straws now-a-days saying one is much better than the other. Both have great games now, Ive even preferred the PS3 lineup this year. Online isnt quite as good but youll still have a lot more fun if all your mates own PS3s.

like what?

What do you pay for that you wouldnt get on the PS3 for FREE?

Yeah I'm with what most others have suggested - keep the 360 and save to get a PS3 as well. 360s are worth hardly anything these days, it's just not worth selling it on. You'd probably get about £100 for a 20GB Premium, maybe £120. Hardly worth it if you ask me.

Can't go wrong with either console though, especially if your friends have PS3s.

yes, it's the better console, from the build quality right upto the things you can use it for.

online the PS3 is easily a match for 360 and it will save you the cost of a LIVE subscription as it's free, add to that Home where you can meet up with all your PS3 owning friends and chat all day long if you want and your onto a winner.

wireless connectivity and upgradeable HD's is very handy to have and a look around these very forums will show that the vast majority of PS3 owners are very happy with the console while most 360 owners will have suffered the RRoD or some other misfortune, not to mention the noise from the thing or it's lack of Blu-ray.

I hardly think Home is worth mentioning as a PS3 selling point just yet. I've not been able to get on it once since it launched on Thursday and I've tried several times every day since then. It's a joke right now - not even worth of being called beta if the vast majority of people can't even connect.

In a few months that will of course change, but it's not really even worth mentioning right now if you ask me :) Completely agree with everything else you mentioned however.

Cross game voice chat, parties and cross game inviting are the three big ones that jump to mind. They're all features the PS3 is more than capable of but are rarely implemented, some titles have some of these features but they're few and far between, the 360 has these features integrated into the OS so all online games support them. There's also little things like the fact that everyone with a 360 has access to a headset from the get-go, it's a far rarer occurrence to have people chatting on the PSN.

Before i get labeled as a fanboy, take note of my sig, i don't even own a 360 (but do play one often).
