Going from a E1280 to a E2200

Hi all,

I have a chance to go to a E2200 from my E2180 for free :) from a friend. So is it worth the hastle of striping my pc down for the extra. Im curretly at 3.2Ghz with 1.475v :eek: Stable as you like. So is it worth the gains of a 2200?

What have you got your 2200's clocked at guys? :cool:

They are most likely from very similar wafer so I doubt it will be much different. Worth a try if you can swap it back though.
 
why??? the only reason i would be able to think of would be to take advantage of the higher multiplier...

are you willing to spend all the time stress-testing it when you have the same thing (basically) already running with no problems? i wouldn't be

i wouldnt bother unless you know it can do more than 3.2ghz as otherwise you may even end up with slower cpu
 
You might gain a bit, you might lose a bit. I don't think i would bother really
 
:D thanks for the advice guys think I will stick with the E1280 and try push it a little further. Do you think its possible as quoted above its at 3.2ghz on 1.475v. Not sure If i can lower the volts and I havent played with it much just went right to 3.2Ghz and got it stable with volts :)
 
It is a little bit high for 3.2Ghz and you can probably push it to 3.3Ghz with 1.5V on a decent cooler. It might not be the best clocker but the E2200 isn't that much better either.
 
If it's free then DO IT, your overclock of 3.2ghz on 1.45v isn't that good, it's a very high voltage for that clock, doesn't sound like a greta clocking chip!

Swap swap swap. Oh, and swap.
 
Can't see the point myself.

Even if the E2200 is a very good one, you may only see 400mhz better than the E2180, if you're very lucky. It may do it with less volts.

Worst case is it will clock more poorly, and require more volts than your E2180.

Somewhere in between may be the same overclock as you've got now, but with reduced memory bandwidth due to the higher multi and lower FSB for the same clock.

Personally, I don't think it's worth the bother! You just don't know how it will pan out, unless you've got some info on how the E2200 clocks?

I've had 2 E2140's, an E2160 and 2 E2180's now, and one of the E2140's is a very good clocker (which I still have) and is stable at 3.6Ghz and benches at 3.8Ghz, and both E2180's have been good too with 3.2Ghz easily achieved. The other E2140 and E2160 were not great, and I struggled to get them to 3Ghz stable.

But, if you like trying new stuff and finding its limits, then why not?

ONLY 400mhz? Eh? 400mhz is a lot to an overclocker... if you don't think so then you don't like clocking chips, it really is that simple.

I can't believe people are actually sitting here in an enthusiast overclocking forum telling him NOT to get a FREE upgrade to a potentially much better clocking CPU (not forgetting his current one is crap)... would anyone here begrudge themselves a free CPU upgrade considering they only take 2 minutes to swap out... is that was this place has become?:eek:

Seems a bit of a sad situation if so.

I agree. I get 3.2Ghz with 1.36v.

Go for it Peter. As Richdog has said, you've nothing to lose but a lot to gain ;).
