I'm planning a new card as soon as new stocks arrive, i will be going from a 6870 to a 970 (i don't buy cards often, ahem). I'm expecting it to be quite a performance leap once it is in but wondered is it simple to swap between AMD and Nvidia - do i just uninstall one and install the new or is there a particular 'driver cleaner' type of program i would find useful etc?

Makes sense to find these things out in advance rather than on the fly when im eager to play with my new toy. Thanks

I think your title just needs to read "Going from AMD to Nvidia and my problems will be minimised.

Download latest nvidia drivers.
Uninstall AMD drivers
Remove card
Install nvidia card
Install nvidia drivers.

Look up "Display Driver Uninstaller" to be really sure. It is a free tool, found on Guru3D I think.

Going from AMD to Nvidia - How to minimise problems?

Just going to Nvidia from AMD will minimize problems anyway.

Only joking :D

Unistall AMD drivers, shutdown your PC, remove power cord. Carefully remove AMD card and gently place into the recyling bin. Now unpack your Nvidia card, install into PC. Plug power cord back in, boot up PC, install latest Nvidia drivers and enjoy epic performance and a sense of superiority as an Nvidia owner, welcome to the master race.

:D:D;)

If you're running an AMD CPU then be careful with AMD's "Total uninstaller" that they recommend. It will wipe out all of your drivers, USB included leaving you with no keyboard or mouse.

Buggers.. I had to buy a PS2 keyboard.

That depends on the motherboard, never had an issue with the USB while using AMD's "Total uninstaller on my AMD setup.

lol, thanks for the replies. I wasnt aware of any problems lying in wait for me but i was bored at work so thought i'd ask and double check.

Here's to a simpler, cooler life :)
