Going out in Brixton!

thank you, I used to work in Brixton, and would get the night bus back, it was a nightmare,

I love the place, great vibe, good pubs, but night busses are a no-go, these guys will steal your training shows then kick you to death

Not sure what point you're trying to make with this picture. But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that it's tongue in cheek. Particularly so given that Brixton is rather ethnically diverse these days.

Such a bunch of ill-informed frightened scaremongering wusses on this forum. :p

So that picture isn't what ethnically diverse means then?
Dem politicians have been lying to me again.

Some ethicnically diverse people must have moved out since I last visited then. Well I say visited, but really I mean drove through it at high speed in a blacked out car and not stopping for red lights, obviously.

This

Infact it's one of the best parts of London for a night out

To get stabbed.

The public disorder rate has remained fairly steady with the exception of a large spike in 2005.

Almost 30% of all households earn below 60% of the median income whilst 60% experience deprivation of some kind.

Around 13% receive housing benefits. Brixton, located in Lambeth, was one of the areas most affected by the London Riots in 2011. It has been described the ‘drugs capital of London’ and has had a long history with gangs, drugs and crime

I enjoyed my brief time in Brixton, went to watch Iron Maiden, ****ed off a ticket tout and had an argument with a guy in KFC, good times :D

My friend who was walking around like a tourist got some agro from people but that was about it.

Out of curiosity, are you black?

I lived in Brixton for a year and thought the place was absolutely disgusting. I'm now in the Westferry/Canary Wharf area and it's a completely different vibe. Admittedly, I had no problems in my time in Brixton but the place is so crowded and filthy!

Yeah yeah we get it - you don't like Brixton.

You don't even live in the uk anymore - you don't even live near there, I used to, and still go there from time to time. Lambeth is a poor council, but That doesn't mean to say that Brixton is dangerous. Take your preconceptions and erroneous "fact" out of this thread.

I was in Brixton Saturday morning. Have a friend that lives in Kings Avenue which I'm not quite sure count as the Brixton area, but it's very nice down there and I could easily live there too. I know a lot of people in this thread are just kidding and poking fun (myself included) but it's not a bad place. It's a bit too far for me to go out but I've been to the Academy many times with zero issues. I always walk to Stockwell station afterwards without so much as being glanced at. You'll be fine.

i've been out plenty in Brixton, and as far as I am aware have never come across any problems or stabbings. its got a good atmosphere in the evening and there are some decent bars and clubs... also not as expensive as the centre!

The best thing to do is to just go out and have a good time, try not to get indoctrinated into a gang!

Mate wants to go out in Brixton. For me Brixton has always been synonymous with crime etc.... is it safe to go out drinking, and then have an hours journey home?

lol

Just NO.

Brixton is the kind of place you simply drive through and view from within the comfort of a moving vehicle.

End.

My mate got stabbed in the face by a broken bottle in the very area you claim as safe, very nearly lost his eye, and will have a circular scar on his face for the rest of his life, cos some teens didn't apparently like the way he brushed them off when they asked him to lend him a dollar ! followed by a kissing teeth sound.

These were just teens 15-16 perhaps. No doubt from one of the deprived council estates on that area with no real aspirations in life.

As a kid growing up, i spent a lot of time in Brixton, cos my mum worked just off the high street. So when i hung out there, i got a good feel for the area. The kids there were generally very rough. From the hard knocks in life. Some are now most undoubtedly in prison for violent crimes.

Black or white, the kids there are / were rough. Much as they are in the inner cities rough areas of New York or LA. These places don't have a rep for nothing.

Could the above happen in other area's of the country / city? Of course. But as a probability, when the place is listed as socially and economically deprived, crime rates soar and danger is always only ever around the corner.

That being said, the rough places in USA do make the Brixton hardnuts seem like a bunch of softies, such as Camden NJ. You go there and you'd think you're in a war zone, with the amount of burnt out cars and derelict buildings.. One after the other. A real eye opener.

I guess people should avoid Hackney, Haringey, Tower Hamlets, Lambeth, Lewisham, Southwark, Newham, Croydon, Enfield and other boroughs with high deprivation and "high" crime? Pretty much a quarter of London.

Crucially crime rates are relatively high in these areas.

Do a rolling 12 month comparison of total violence against people check here.

Well actually I can tell you that I got on just fine because I was in Brixton last Friday evening. I stopped off for some Caribbean grub while on my way to Croydon to make a surprise visit to see my parents on their anniversary.

But what do I know. I was just lucky.

Also, I know Coldharbour Lane extremely well you may be surprised to know, given that I was born just up the other end of Coldharbour Lane in Camberwell. ;)

I have lots of family who've been resident in Brixton for over 40 years. My dad grew up round the corner in Battersea in the '60s and my mum used to drag me round Brixton market every Saturday in the late 70s.

And guess what...we've all survived to tell the tale!!

But I guess we were just lucky

I also remember the Brixton riots in the '80s. Its an area which has transformed since those days, which in of itself is no bad thing. Its far from perfect but also far from the crime epicentre you make it out to be.

And I don't believe that pic was taken in Coldharbour Lane, but I'm happy to be proved wrong.

Don't be stupid. Life expectancy in Brixton is 40.
