Going realistically vegan

I have yet to find a fake meat that tastes even remotely nice.
Personally I'd just ditch fake meat and have a paneer and beetroot burger.
So many lovely vegetables no need to pretend it's meat.

Have you tried Beyond meat? Ive had it from a couple of fast food places now and its actually pretty good considering.

Vivera also do fake chicken which I actually really enjoy from GBK, its never been easier to be Vegan tbh, I feel for the Vegans of 20yrs ago, living on lentils and beans. But After seeing footage and just finding out industry standard practices in the UK, I will never touch meat or dairy again.

It Is slightly harder when it comes to say cakes or treats but even then theres plenty of accidentally vegan or vegan specific desserts now.

I genuinely feel like it would ruin my life going veggie, let alone vegan.

I’m sure I’ve got some form of meat addiction

I actually think we all do as most us are all brought up to eat meat. But also, the vast majority of us are against animal abuse right?

Theres cognitive dissonance there, and once you flip that switch that makes you go oh hang on, that cows life is worth the same as a dogs life, and you couldn't stand seeing a dog bolt gunned in the head and hacked up, you wont want to pay for that to happen again.

Yes, texture was okay but it tasted rubbish.
Rather have a falafel burger.

Best way to convince is through food. My vegan meal plan for the next week or so:

Spaghetti Tapenade, tofu and Arugula
Udon with broccoli and avocado
Taco salad with chorizo
Tofu tacos with spinach and rice
Shepherds Pie
Sun dried tomato and spinach frittata
Tofu banh mi
Breakfast burrito
Coconut braised cabbage
Gnocchi and chopped salad

Anything tastes like chorizo if you add fat, garlic and paprika. It's magic :)

This thread interests me a lot more than discussing animal treatment; I eat a vegan diet and it has nothing to do with animal rights. Purely environmental. In fact I feel less healthy than when I ate meat too, I'm pretty convinced I personally feel best with meat and eggs in my diet.

I ended up doing more or less what OP aims for, though I find it hard to do the grey area/moderation so I'm more on the "vegan until I'm out and about where there's no options". For instance I was at a barbecue Saturday and took some burgers, houmous, snacks etc. But the provided sides were pretty minimal so I had some potato salad (mayonnaise) and a slice of cheese to avoid eating a dry burger in bun. That's about as far as I've flexed recently, but I will always accept a cup of tea regardless of what milk goes in.

I think my priorities go: tea > politeness/gratitude as a guest > food waste > veganism.

Being able to flex here and there is useful, the one time I've had meat was when work took us for a full Christmas dinner in 2021 and I wanted to be able to join in and appreciate that being provided for us.

My partner was vegan when we met, so I was "mostly vegan at home" until 2020. Then I did veganuary and just... Didn't know how to stop? Did I go and get a steak on 1st February? So I've ended up basically vegan unless caught out. It's harder work, and I'd love to be a little more flexible for my own health really. I think humanity making a gentle change is more impactful than a few individuals going hardcore.

Calcium.
Oops. And I'm mostly veggie...

You dont have to be veggie to have a
