Right guys,

When it comes to HDD's im a complete 'Noob'.
My current hdd setup, iv got a 70gb samsung hdd (can't actually remember the name of it had it since around 2005 - 2006) with windows 7 installed, and one or two important stuff, like battlefield 3, and and some important files, stuff that won't or shouldn't really slow windows down too much and iv got 20gb free.
My 2nd hdd is a maxtor 160gb hdd that iv had since 2003 or 2004, and its got all my documents, programes and all my general crap installed on it, and iv only got 15gb free on it.

I think (this is how little i know about hdds i know apart from they store memory) i think my main hdds is sata2 possibly? lol, and the maxtor one sata 1? lol..

My windows performance analysis thing reports:
Processor 7.9
Memory (RAM) 7.7
Graphics 7.9
Gaming Graphics 7.9
Hard Disk 3.9

A few weeks ago, saw a lot less powerfull computer than mine with a SSD inside load windows in a few seconds, and everything was bloody instant, and not that im jellous or anything lol, but i do need to upgrade my hdds.

My budget is about £120, and i need a SSD drive for windows, and a bigger HDD for my data please 300gb+ because im sick of deleting stuff all the time on my data drive after downloading it, then re-downloading it few months later if i need it again, rather than sticking it in my "incase i need it again within 6 months folder". or if its worth it just a big SSD drive?

Iv heard to stay away from sandforce controller things on ssd's? not sure what thats about though, so any advice is welcome!

Oh also, only got two sata 3 ports on my mobo

And also, nooby as it sounds, what would the best way to copy all my data to a new data drive, just plug a new hdd in, copy everything over then unplug the old one, then set windows to use the new one as my documents etc?

Thanks

Hard Disk 3.9

ouch:eek:

sandforce drives are fine,if i were you id get a 256gb ssd samsung 830 maybe? and a 2tb hdd, something like the
seagate barracuda 2tb ??

use macrium reflect to clone your current hdd/os to the new ssd,if your sata ports arnt already set to ahci mode then do a reg tweak before you clone(google enable ahci win7) then clone and install the intel rapid storage drivers

use the ssd for os/important programs/games and 2tb hdd for storage/games ect

I'd get the 128GB Samsung 830 here for £83.99, and something like the 1TB WDC Green available for £59.99 here.

With a slight budget stretch you could probably get a 2TB rather than a 1TB if you think you might need the space.

The SSD comes with Norton Ghost that'll allow you to transfer your existing system without reinstalling from scratch (there are other free tools available that'll do the same thing).

You'd need to be quick on the SSD as the offer will be changing in the morning.

(A 256GB SSD would be nice, but it'll blow your entire budget. It's worth considering if you could buy the big mechanical drive later on).
