Going to gym for first time?

10 reps a set is a lot for someone new, 5 reps is probably best to start out with. You should look up common workout routines on youtube. Try to stick to one muscle group per gym session. Just remember its a marathon not a sprint, muscle/stamina takes a long time to improve. Having a gym partner really makes things easier.

Most of the machines will have a ticker on them which will tell you how to use the machine properly.

Personally I prefer using free weights as opposed to the machines.

Erm, I thought that they *had* to give you an induction when you joined a new place because of health and safty insurance purposes?

You can't just let a noob onto machines, if they hurt themselves with no induction that is a payout no?

I don't think stickers saying how to use the machine would be enough, not everyone can read very well, or follow simple pictures! ha!

I don't need someone to tell me how to do a lift a metal bar.

Maybe you don't, but a lot of people really do.

Exactly this. It's surprsing how many people just aren't aware of what exactly their body is doing! You'll explain how they should do something, they think they're doing it... but you can clearly see they aren't.
