Going to look at this car - honest opinions please .

Get an RAC check on it - well worht the £120. ALso, the base Boxster isn't that fast and the tiptronic makes it even slower. Still a great handling car though - and looks good. I'm wanting a 911 soon...... hmm....

I disagree. With a specialist sports car like this, even a mass produced one, you want a specialist to look over it. They'll usually charge you an hour or two's labour, so anywhere between £100 and £200, but it'll tell you so much more than the RAC.
 
the rac one will be very generic, good for a standard car maybe, but for something like this where you have specialist indy's its worth using them.

AFN in guildford, thats where I got mine, tony curtis is the service manager IIRC, very nice guys

Odd, I'm insuring a mk3 2.5 ghia X (grp 15) for £700pa fully comp with 2 yrs NCB and I'm 22. Admittedly I live in a quiet area of the east midlands.

I stuck in a postcode of a mate living in Guildford and I get quotes of £900-1k, and a north London postcode gets me quotes of 1.5k - I know as I'm doing a lot of research as I plan to move down there later in the year and therefore looked into it before buying the car.

I'm really quite shocked that someone who is 32 would pay £900 in kent when someone who is 22 would pay £900 in Surrey - do the insurers see them as being that different? I'd have expected them to both be very similar - is your area particularly bad for crime, or do you have loads of points or something.

we've just got a quote for a 650i of of direct line (for the sake of argument you understand) fully comp for me and the missus is £650.

If we wanted to insure an Astra VXR it was £340 fully comp.

I'm 29 BTW.

I'd get another insurer.

As for the porsche, i'd leave it alone for the time being, and look a little harder at what was out there.
Its a fairly expensive convertable, at the wrong time of year for convertables, so i wouldnt think its going to shift within the time it takes to satisfy you there are no better examples.

Just my 2 cents, but if your an older woman, then go ahead and buy one. Otherwise no thanks. That's just my honest opinion on boxters.

The car does look nice though.

well i was planning.. see it makes me feel big and clever to find fault with things i can't possibly afford ;)

personally boxters just leave me cold, the poster asked for honest opinions and that's honestly mine.. if you've got 15k to spend on a 2-door ragtop why not go for a carrera cabrio.. autotrader's site is down atm so how about:

this one for example.. don't like the white much but hey

18k more miles but still with full porsche service history, hpi check, full mot, etc, bells, whistles, etc..

yeah it needs a good valeting to sort out the carpet and the seats could do with some attention too, that's gotta be a couple of hundred quid to sort out.. still under the 15k budget and with cash to spare for a couple of track days

yes it's ten years older, but it's prettier, has a lot more prestige and is probably faster.. although i'll concede the boxter is likely to handle a _lot_ better :)

question is, is it going to be used as a daily driver or is it going to be a weekend car? if you want something to use every day then the younger car is probably a more sensible choice i agree but if you're going to use the car daily do you really want a 2 seater convertible?

plus there's the whole personal preference thing.. i think boxters are ugly boring little boxes, other people don't

one thing i would say though is 6 owners in 7 years? either as said earlier people buying it for the sunny days and selling in winter.. could also be people buying it as a starter porsche then getting bored with the engine . gearbox and trading up to a faster one?
 
Insurance Groups really are a crappy way of guessing the costs.

Ie a 1.2 Corse at group 3 was less to insure for my GF than a 1.0 12v rated at group 2. And dont even start on the Toyota Supra's.

Porsche looks nice, id certainly consider one, or maybe an S2000. Dont be put off by the poor mans 911 comments.

Really? They treated me like ****, looking down at me as if I was not even worthy of thier time. I gave up the idea of getting a 911 for a few years now due to my marriage break up and needing the cash for my own place. :(
