Going to look at two cars today, advice please...

It was, at the time a lot of people on this forum were doing it. I was paying £1200 at 17 with 0NCB on a 2.0l Mondeo. The following year that dropped to under £1000 on a 3.0l Omega.

I believe the discount is only 30% now but, on a £2200 premium, that's a lot of money!

I will have to shop around for someone offering 30% I think. The problem is that many dont issue the pass plus bonus on their website, they make you pay the full amount and then then will give you say 20 or 30% back after you take out the policy and produce the certificate.

Time to start making some phone calls to see what sort of discounts they wil give off their website prices for pass plus I think.

The ones in my original post included a 20% pass plus discount.

I added my gf to my insirance, it came down by £200 but this was on a £800 quote to start with.

Admiral are giving some god quotes at the moment, and maybe try the Post Office, they were one of the best when i did my insurance.

Price - £2600

Price - £3400
Insurance - £2280

Those are fully comp quotes? TBH were it me I'd be looking at <2K cars and tpft insurance.

My mother has a 1.2 clio. I think its the 8v engine. It would grieve me to spend 2K on something that slow. I think they have a 16v 1.2 engine which is much better.

Bar the lack of power, overall I think the clio is a pretty decent car. What does the RT trim level come with? Again, I wouldnt want to spend >2.5K on one of the lower trim models.

They were actually third party fire and theft quotes.

Its got electric windows, sunroof, power steering, abs, after market cd player and the dealer claimed on the phone this morning remote locking, but I dont know this last one to be true.

be cheaper to move city then insure the car ;)

Too right :D

It might well be worth getting a CAT 2 immob on it too, about £100 fitted which will give you peace of mind and also may help with your premium. Also things like parking on a drive if you have access to one will help also.

Try Elephant insurance online. Tick that you have access to another car, and add 3 low risk named drivers. It worked for me.

Even for Liverpool that seems very expensive. Try Endsleigh - they were a fair bit cheaper for me

My first year was £1500 FC for a modified 1.4 16V Astra (no Pass Plus). This dropped to £900 in the second year - this was all with an accident declared in my name

Adding my parents as second drivers (I was the main driver and policy holder) dropped the premium for most of the insurer's too
