Going to Prague for 5 days. What not miss!?

There's some penguins just along from the Charles bridge on the castle side. Venturing slightly afield if you go to the zizkov district you can go up the zizkov tower and be confused by the giant babies

Dodging the crowds on Charles Bridge went in summer few years ago was like sardines in a can trying to move.

Prague is alright though all I can say is walk around and explore nice views.

Sedlec Ossuary

It's around an hour from Prague via public transport, in the suburb of Sedlec (Kutna Hora). It is small but worth visiting and there are other interesting sights in Kutna Hora too, such as St Barbara's church and its impressive architecture.

If history is an interest, Terezin is within reach. Generally, I'd say 5 days is quite a lot for Prague. It has a beautiful centre ideal for wandering but I would recommend factoring in a trip of some sorts to the hinterlands. Personally, I would combine it with a visit to somewhere like Karlovy Vary, but that may be too far for you to consider.

General things:
  • Prague castle
  • Evening/dinner cruise on the Vltava

I've looked at some organized tours to Kutna Hora and they are about £70 each. Just looked at how much it is to get a train there and back and the trainline have quoted me £110! I thought things were cheap in Czechia!

I wouldn't use Trainline for anything. Always book directly with the local operator (or at the station, services should be regular).

Ironically, I didn't do this. I loathe guided tours but, for ease, myself and partner booked one. This was many years ago, one of our first holidays. We were the only tourists on that particular trip. Ended up with an old historian named Lubor as a personal guide, alongside his driver. Maintaining conversation hour after hour was excruciating. Taught me a valuable lesson!

Obvs. the Christmas market, usual fair if you have been to any before. This will be the first one since covid so ymmv.

Can't remember the name but the monastery at the top of the hill not far from the center. It'll be cold but not arctic.

Charles bridge obviously. Also the penis museum if that's your thing  I had to cover kiddos eyes as we walked past as she compulsively reads out signs.

Hany Bany in the old town was a nice old skool boozer popular with students and locals, cheap as chips compared to other places (which were also cheap last time I went). Just looked and Google says cafe now, idk. Had some good evenings in there before covid.

The revolutionary train if it's open, rarely was from experience. I'd avoid the bar next to it, it's adorned with Ultras memorabilia, or was.

The bone church was interesting but I'm not a Catholic, the misses dragged us round with her parents. Used to go regularly but just for family visits really.

It's a lovely place, lots of cafés and places to eat

I was about to create the same thread - no hijack intended @Efour

We're booked up to the same exact same hotel for three nights in December and we're looking forward to the Christmas markets along with a few of the other suggestions posted here.

lol no worries we leaving next Monday.
all we've done so far is look up places to eat and booked a really cheesy medieval banquet style dinner thing with cliche fire breathing juggling strippers. Looks like a complete tourist trap but its free booze so ill probably drink the cost of the ticket anyway :P
Im usually very stingy when it comes to hotel rooms but now we have a night in a 5 star with a converted clock tower in the room and 4 nights in a "ginger suite" at that dancing hotel....
Prague really doesn't look very big!

We're leaving on the 10th Dec - as a photographer I've always been fascinated by the architecture and the Frank Gerhy Dancing House looks amazing. We did originally intend to book Berlin for their Christmas markets however work commitments and time off across December meant flight times from Scotland really didn't work for us.

So we're looking forward to sampling the Prague Christmas markets instead, coupled with the usual tourist traps (more research required) along with some decent Staropramen.

I'll be very interested to hear your feedback should you wish to share?

Give Wenceslas Square at night a wide berth, it's horrid. Packed with drunk brits.

It's a few years since I've been to Prague but when we're there we always try to eat at Pivovarsky Dum, the food and beer are superb. Though when I'm there I'll generally eat my body weight in Trdelnik, they're available all over the place. Delicious.
