Going to the Gym when tired.

Or... Just use coffee which most people have available at home so no need to buy extra stuff....

Absolutely, keeping things cheap is key, just making a suggestion for an alternative.

Coffee is not an ideal vehicle for caffeine supplementation.
There is a lack of evidence for any performance increase from the likes of coffee, cola drinks, caffeinated sports drinks vs pure caffeine.

Low to moderate intakes of caffeine in the range of 1-3mg/kg an hour before to immediately before exercise has improved exercise outcomes.

I'd respectfully disagree and state that coffee is a cheap viable alternative to buying supplementation.

I agree that caffeine supplementation offers more potent effects. But they are not necessary at the same time I'd you're not one to buy supplements regularly.

I have this issue at times. Today is a real example of it. I just can't muster the energy to go at all. Been on some meds for 2 months now I think roughly and I sleep aaaaaaaall the time. I got 10 hours last night, takes a lot of effort to drag myself out of bed (had this week off work)and I feel like I could go back to bed again now. I feel like a teenager. Feels like someone has zapped me of all my energy/motivation. Find it so difficult.

I always have a bottle of coke in the fridge that lasts me a while, I mix it with coffee in a small glass and it fires me up. I only ever do that if I'm struggling to find the energy to work out.

Fresh ground beans, strong americano, cream. Bestest drink ever. Would kill anyone who took my coffee machine. :)

77mg ish caffeine in an espresso shot.
50mg in a pro plus tablet.
Not sure about that instant guff.

Double espresso for me if I need a pre gym boost.

A double espresso should be getting anyone fired up if they're not already drinking 5 cups of coffee a day. As soon as I cut back on my daily consumption the effects of the single cup a day went through the roof for me.

Also has the benefit of being a lovely drink :D

Either your adenosine receptors are fried from having drunk too much caffeine or you're not having strong enough caffeine.

Personally I'd go cold turkey for a while and let your receptors recover. I thought I didn't respond but I did that and took stock of my caffeine ingestion and it was higher than I thought. Anything over 70mg should have an effect. So having something at over 150 should have you buzzing.

I definitely drink too much coffee and a pre-workout espresso doesn't do that much for me (though it's required to get me to a baseline alertness). Definitely need to cut down.

If I drink something with taurine in it absolutely effects me though. It's like rediscovering coffee all over again.

I've been a tea kinda guy for ever! that's the thing, I never had a phase or anything like that were I would drink strong coffee everyday etc.. it just does nothing for me! people talk about the "kick" etc but I get nothing, I can have double expresso and go to bed after 30minutes and sleep for 10hours.

this week I had 2 cups of coffee :o

How much tea do you drink? Tea does have caffeine in, even if it's not as concentrated as coffee.

2cups/day if that :D with milk too!

that's what I'm saying I don't drink much caffeine, I guess my body simply doesn't respond to it! I'd say I get a better kick out of orange juice haha.

on that note energy drinks etc do nothing for me either, can't feel any extra alertness, energy..

the only thing pre-workouts do for .e.g is give me more "pump" and I seem to sweat more, thats about it. :o:D

Genetics is a potential reason. Caffeine is primarily metabolised by the liver enzyme cytochrome (responsible for creating ATP) and depending on the person's metabolic structure they can metabolise it at different rates or in a way which bypasses the CNS altogether owing to it's rapid breakdown in the liver.

You could try Guarana & Yerba Mate Malate which are a naturally occuring form of caffeine not related to coffee. Also some people have taken a mix of vit d and CoQ10 and found that to be helpful at giving them more energy.

However, you just need to try and be sensible with your approach to how you test things else you just end up spending lots of money for no reason.
