Going to the pub on xmas day

The 'males' in our family were all going to go down the pub before dinner, but everyone is late so we're not going to have time. I'm doing all the cooking anyway so I'm happy with that.

Drove past our local pub today, and what did i see like 5 ppl waiting for it to open:rolleyes: Who would in there right mind would go out on xmas day to the pub. Its about staying in with your family, it made them look right spanners.

...says the guy sat on the internet? :/

I'd rather be in the pub than sat online, but no one I know will be at the pub so I'm making do here for the time being.

Obviously not everyone is as lucky as you. Calm down! What does it matter to you anyway?

Loads of blokes go down the pub whilst dinner is cooking, I just got back from there. Whats the big deal?

Popping to the pub for a few drinks on christmas day is not out of the ordinary. However waiting outside for it to open is a little sad.

As already said, this is a traditional thing where the pubs open for a few hours and the men go for a pint while the dinner is getting ready. This has been going on for as long as I can remember

A lot of people have family over and a couple of hours down the pub before dinner is often how they catch up.

I wasnt standing waiting for it to open but I did pop round with my dad for a few beers its nice to relax and have a chat while all the excitment is going on in the house espeically now im at uni and dont get to spend a lot of time with him

Me, my bro, my grandad and dad always go to the pub for an hour on Christmas day. It's about having a good time, and feeling festive. Theres absolutely nothing wrong with it, and lots of people in our town do exactly the same thing.:)

Me and the Wife went out to meet some friends at the pub to celebrate my 34th Birthday today!!... Don't think I was being a 'Spanner' doing that!!!:p:p:rolleyes:

Every year at about 6 when dinner is done, me, my uncle and some mates all go to our local GAA club for a few pints. It's tradition and has been going on for years. A lot of people don't have the luxury of spending Christmas with family. If I wasn't starting work in a couple of hours I'd probably head out as sitting here by myself listening to everyone blabber on about what clothes and aftershave they got along with the rubish TV is really getting me down. Being alone at Christmas sucks.

Also, some people spend the entire run up to Christmas and Christmas day with their family. There's nothing wrong with escaping the family for a couple of hours.
