Thanks Alibaba99. This is the sort of feedback I was hoping for
I've had it confirmed that it's S2 Exige suspension fitted, not S1.
I drove the first car today. Owner seemed open and knowledgeable about the car. I asked about the engine mounts and he said he would check to see if they have been replaced. I'll ask him to also chase up about the suspension too. When you say it all needs replacing, are you talking only about the bushings or is there more to it?
The car certainly had a direct and raw feel to it but nothing too different to my MR2 in terms of steering and ride. I enjoyed it a lot. Getting in and out was quite a palavour though, even though we had the roof off!
Hopefully going to check out the 2nd this coming weekend.
It's all the suspension. The ball joints fail for a pass time, the bushes wear and the dampers need replacing. I think it is a combination of making things from cheese and the cars being so precise that slight problems are more noticeable.
These cars are fun all year round. They are just better with the roof off though.

Winter in a VX is a nightmare the heating is just...... not even worth turning on.

Mine gets some heat in the end but by then I've already died of hypothermia.
Bare in mind I drive to work at 5am in the winter mornings sometimes.

This sounds like a really great idea. You should definately do it.
Why buy a nice one in 2 months time when you could buy a tatty one today?

Dogbreath it would. Just have look at s2k insurance prices.... Thats why i dont have one

Seems a bit steep I have to agree. I guess a Boxster S would be more of a liability than the VX?

Sounds like you know what you want, but can't afford what you want. What you want is within reach however, and you should do the sensible thing and save a bit longer. Sounds like a disaster otherwise.
Have a look at your finances and see if you can save a bit more or cut out a luxury for small time.

At the 6k mark, almost certainly
In two months ( September) they will be selling for less due to the end of summer.
If your car is due an mot which it is unlikely to pass without work then it will sell for less right now.
Worth checking that your car can pass the Mot first?

Regarding my MOT then, unless you know someone in the market for a reasonably powerful mk1 MR2 with a re-leathered excellent interior but rust issues then I don't see it worth my while with the expense of sorting it out. I'll maybe try and break it. (Having said that I've had the engine mounts modified to accept a 3SGTE so 250-300bhp+ is fairly simple to achieve)
Are you looking to sell yours Trifid? At all near Bristol? I've got a list growing that I need to inspect.
