Golden rules

It takes a bigger man to admit he's wrong than one who carries on unhappy

You were given two ears and only one mouth for a reason

Manners get you everywhere!

Ultimatums are for the weak and foolish.

You were given two ears and only one mouth for a reason

True, but irrelevant:

Having two ears greatly improves your ability to detect which direction a sound is coming from, which is very useful for determining which direction to run in when you're a tasty meal for various predators.

Having two mouths wouldn't help with anything.

That has nothing useful to teach you about life.

Do any of you have any rules you try to abide by no matter what, i have two main ones.

Don't judge others
Don't set your expectations of others too high.

Obviously it's usually the insecure who judge others, plus i see it as a pointless exercise. And the other is fairly self explanatory.

Anyone else?

Without being too rude I would just like to point out that anyone who claims they don't judge others is hugely ignorant and yes I have just judged you.

If you change nothing then tomorrow will be the same as today.

Keep an open mind.

Take opportunuties. It is better to have tried and failed than to look back with regret.

Ah but you have missed the point, you learn a lot more and can achieve a lot more by listening than by shouting.

So it has everything to teach you in that you should put twice as much emphasis on listening to others than telling everyone your own opinion

I didn't miss the point. I thought it was a very poor way to make the point because it's just plain wrong. You don't have 2 ears and 1 mouth so you can hear twice as much as you say. That's factually incorrect and rather silly.

As much as you might think everyone else doesn't, everyone lives for themselves and everything you and others do is for your own self benefit passively or directly.

If you change nothing then tomorrow will be the same as today.

If you absolutely control everything and everyone. Which you don't. In reality, external factors will affect you every day, so even if you change nothing some things will be changed for you.

Simple example:

If I stay up all night, go to bed at 10 in the morning and get up at 6 in the evening on a day off work, that's fine.

If I change nothing the next day, when I'm supposed to be at work, my boss is not going to go along with the idea that they can't do anything about me not turning up for work because I didn't change anything therefore that day must be the same as the one before.

I have a bit of a downer today for trite statements that simply aren't true.
